Former LSU wide receiver Kyle Parker becomes Ohio State's 16th transfer commitment entering 2026.
I'm not happy about how this last season ended.
I'm sitting here wondering what could have been if Day was calling plays for the entire Indiana game, and we were able to make our way on the left side of the bracket this year instead of the right. I'm not saying we would have won the Natty for sure, but it's clear that Sayin and the OL needed more time. Facing the two best defensive fronts in CFB in back-to-back weeks did not allow any wiggle room for outgrowing our biggest vulnerability.
I'm also left wondering what our OL would have looked like if we went after a big name like Kayden Proctor, and passed on guys like Beau Atkinson who ended up being a depth piece. Overall, I know roster management is a tough thing. However, considering we needed to replace 3 guys who played at an elite level last year (Simmons, Jackson, and McLaughlin), it should have been obvious that we needed at least one elite starter from the portal. We took a gamble on Phillips and Onianwa competing for the 5th spot because every other member from the projected starting OL had significant time in the playoff last year, with more room to grow.
With all the bad stuff out of the way, I'd like to say that I am thankful for a great season overall. It was better than I expected after how much we replaced from the Natty squad.
I'm also actually happy this week. We've lost tons of guys to the portal, but it's clear that the guys who left were not going to get playing time over who we've got coming in. It seems like we're not going to pay people who aren't producing, and we'd rather have 2-3 solid players over a group of 4-5 where we bet on development. Also, with our incoming HS class, it's not like we're actually at a massive deficit.
I'm a little concerned about losing JPJr., but I'm guessing the coaches made the decision to invest in our DL instead of a guy who hasn't proven he's significantly better than everyone he's competing with. I still really want a big transfer on the OL, but I know that probably won't happen since the need isn't as big as last year, and we are probably paying a lot to keep what we have instead. It's a logical decision.
Overall, I think the most significant factors that will determine our success next year are who we get as OC and whether we can retain Patricia as DC. Who do you guys think will be our coordinators for this coming season? Are hopeful with our roster decisions and coaching staff?
