Does It Seem Like Every Problem Burns Us 2+ Times Before Fixing It?

Day is clearly a great guy who likes to give people the benefit of the doubt & a chance to improve, but is it possible to be a successful head coach at a Top 5 program, you gotta be a little more decisive?

There seems to be a pattern with Day that, rather than recognizing and addressing issues as they arise, every problem has the opportunity to bite us at least twice before meaningful change is made.

It's the same pattern each time: 1) Problem arises. This is normal. All teams have issues; 2) We lose a game. It's glaringly obvious this problem is a major factor; 3) Day is asked about it, insists it's being worked on. He says whoever is in charge of that area knows it's an issue and is addressing it; 4) The problem continues to be a factor. Only after being burnt 2+ times by it does it get truly addressed.

It happened first with the defense. Instead of being fixed after 2020 (44th nationally / 25.8 ppg allowed) when it was clear Coombs was in over his head, we let it ride another year. We wasted the nation's #1 offense by allowing 23 ppg and let Michigan score 42 before blowing up that side of the ball.

Frye and o-line recruiting was another one that seemed like a clear red flag for too long. Riding that wave for as long as we did is a considerable factor in the lack of o-line talent we have now.

Most obvious recent example is kicker. Been a glaring problem for years. Day has continued to say it was being addressed, yet we trotted out the same damn guy this year. Had a chance to make a change but chose the status quo. After being burned again this year, now Day finally seems like he's committed to making a big change.

The newest example is the offensive line. It was the clear weakness on the team this season to anyone who watched us. It seems like that should be the most obvious position to address in the portal, yet Day seems content going into next season with the same room we had this year. The o-line seems destined to struggle again next year, at which point Day will finally commit to focusing on it, when it was clear 12 months earlier that it needed attention.

I'm not suggesting Day turn into George Steinbrenner and make hasty, rash decisions at every glimpse of resistance, but "fool me twice, shame on me" seems to be a recurring theme.
