Since the unlimited transfer era began, my interest in college basketball has gone down considerably.  Now it's not uncommon for a team to have five transfers starting who weren't on the team the year before.  It makes it harder for fans to get to know players and get excited about them.  Heck, it's hard to even know their names.

My concern is that college football may be heading in that direction.  I distinctly remember being excited about the prospect of Bryce West and Aaron Scott taking over for Iggy, Burke, and Mathews at one point.  And Graham and Porter stepping up and over the course of time taking over for Smith, Egbuka, Tate, and Inniss.

Now West and Scott will be replaced by Timmons and Thomas and Graham and Porter will be replaced by CHJr and Guillford.  Both rooms will be supplimented by transfers who should be ready to step in and contribute right away ahead of our own recruits.  What does that mean?  It means we may never see Timmons, Thomas, CHJr, and Guillford get any meaningful playing time before they too transfer out.

Over the past few years, OSU football has done a great job of adding in the transfer portal (this past year was less successful than the two years before) but the majority of the team was still homegrown.  It was mostly made up of guys I was able to follow from HS recruiting to the end of their college careers and hopefully their NFL careers.  Are those days over?  I hope not, but I have concerns.
