College football has fundamentally changed. Paying money to high school recruits is almost always going to be a waste of money, as very few freshmen are capable of contributing in a substantial way their first or even second year. If they hit the portal after a couple of years, all that money never turns into on-field production. Even if they stick in the program, they are still unproven commodities. I think the future is going to be building rosters from the portal of proven players. The Indiana, Oregon and Texas Tech model is here to stay, in my opinion. High school kids are going to have a harder time making teams that are competing for championships; they will end up at lesser schools and be brought up when they have sufficiently proven themselves on tape. I do not like it but this is the new reality.
Almost Every Dollar Spent on High School Recruits is Wasted Money.
