When Ryan Day took over he did a great job of quickly putting together a staff and a couple years later you looked up and it was among the worst in the P5.

2021 included these gems: Kerry Coombs, Parker Fleming, Corey Dennis, Greg Studrawa, and Matt Barnes

Day then learned his lessons and hired Chip Kelly to run his offense and Jim Knowles to run his defense and it led to a title.

Look up again this year and the same problem has arisen again. The defensive staff is solid no complaints there. But now the offense is filled with just unqualified morons

  • OC-Brian Hartline, Day saw the immense success of having a qualified and experienced OC to lead him to a title and he said no thanks I don’t want to do that. Day/Hartline had a weird fake OC role to keep him around for another year where they split playcalling and it was just ugly when it mattered most.
  • TE-Keenan Bailey is for some reason peoples favorite unqualified coach on the staff. He is a promoted grad assistant which should NEVER happen save for situations like Hartline/Laurinitis where extended NFL experience can fill in for coaching experience. Keenan Bailey has absolutely no business holding the role he is in. This is a Dabo Sweeney move to keep him around
  • OL Tyler Bowen-He has spent 1 season as a D1 OL coach. Again he is unqualified for his job at OSU.
  • QB-Billy Fessler is ANOTHER promoted GA who spent time as Akrons QB coach before getting sent back down as an analyst at OSU. Completely unqualified for his job.
  • RB-Carlos Locklyn is literally the only dude qualified for his job and it’s the least impactful coaching position on the staff.

The reality is it would be foolish to expect the offense to perform well when basically every coach is unqualified for their jobs at OSU. The concept of why OSU is great is simple, the best of the best are plucked out to come here. We are not Clemson, we should not be promoting Quality control coaches who can’t get jobs elsewhere to manage our damn Quarterback. Keenan Bailey should not have control over personnel usage. Tyler Bowen is not experienced enough as an OL coach to manage a 7 man rotation to find the best combo. And sadly Day has now proven he can’t be given full control of an offense.
