2024 saw Ryan Day for the first time give up playcalling duties and he hired a real OC and this led to a national title. Following an insane game plan against Michigan the style and player usage was totally revamped en route to a dominant playoff run
2025 Day promoted Hartline who at best is the quasi OC who splits play calling duties with Day. There have been some interesting aspects throughout the season that many brushed off after dominating lesser competition. First OSU is the slowest team in FBS and refuses to use tempo. Second, despite having the best receiving room in college(and maybe a few NFL teams) they frequently take the receivers off the field in order to pack more tight ends in. When doing this they have also loved running the ball into loaded boxes. For the first time this came back to bite us and we could only muster 10 points.
Last year it took a brutal team meeting from the players to force Day to open up the offense. Now with Hartline off to Tampa, no OC, and a lot of younger players on the team, is Day going to once again change what appears to have caused us to lose a game? Do we see tempo and throwing the ball to wide receivers? With no experienced play caller this playoff run offensively will fall squarely on Days shoulders
