McCord had his typical up and down day, streakiness seems to be his most consistent characteristic this season.
The interception was maybe his worst throw of the entire season, and he's had some real stinkers. Pre-determined that he was going to Harrison before the snap. Didn't even bother to look anywhere else, and predictably he paid for it. Something that a good high school QB doesn't do. THAT WAS AS BAD AS BAD GETS!!!!
However, his 3 throws to Harrison in the end zone, and his dime to Gee Scott were all excellent and impressive passes. Harrison had one of them knocked out of his hands, but that was a TD pass 99/100 times. McCord wasn't making those throws in the first month of the season. He has definitely improved on his red zone passing and ball placement and those 4 throws today were outstanding.
He continues to show signs of having the arm talent to be elite, but he has to eliminate his bad habits of staring down receivers and not going through his progressions.
I'll also cut him some slack because he hasn't had his top 4 targets of MHJr. Egbuka, Stover and Henderson all at 100% since the Notre Dame game. I hope those 4 can all be healthy for the Minny game so they can have some reps together prior to 11/25.
I began this season very unimpressed with McCord. He is certainly improving with things like his touch on the ball, and has impressed me with his arm talent, but he simply has to be better for this team to achieve its goals.
