I love coach Day, but am haunted by the fact that Earle Bruce also came within a hair's breadth of a nat'l championship his first year, after following a coaching legend. Followed by how many years of 9 and 3 and an (unwarranted imho) firing. I was too young to remember clearly...maybe it was the scandal of Hayes' leaving left scars on the program? But seeing how Day is KILLING it in recruiting, I son't see anything letting up. Again, I was a pre-teen...but were Earle Bruce's first two or so classes notable? I guess he picked up Keith Byars and Chris Spielman in those years...so he must've been doing okay.
