Essentially, Pete echoes what many on here have been saying, and that is, while the officiating was abysmal and should absolutely be questioned and parsed, Ohio State's failure in the red zone was equally abysmal. Thamel (along with all of us) says Ohio State was clearly the better and more talented team, but they squandered an opportunity, and now they'll have to live with the regret. For me, last night was more frustrating than 31-0, because the 2019 Buckeyes were infinitely better than their 2016 counterparts, and they were obviously the more talented team last night. Unfortunately, 'more talented' doesn't always equate to winning, and last night Clemson took advantage of scoring opportunities that Ohio State did not... while being helped tremendously by multiple horrible calls and game interference from the officials. When games are decided, at least in part, by the cop, two teachers, the lawyer, the banker, the salesman, and the fireman that the NCAA flies in to officiate playoff games, well, that's simply unacceptable. Games should always be won or lost BY THE PLAYERS on the field, not by the refs and their overreaching ineptitude. Ohio State lost the game, to be clear, by failing to capitalize on three scoring chances inside the 15 yard line and settling for field goals in the first half... but the nail was pounded into the OSU coffin by an officiating crew that was far less than stellar, and that should never happen.
