So we all remember last year, one of the greatest complaints on offense was lack of red zone success, so I was bored at midnight here and playing around with the stats button on the NCAA website and doing my own little comparisons and got looking at offense and defense in the red zone.
Ohio State was a little further down the list than I expected but then I got thinking about something I heard on Zach Smith's podcast. Coaches don't really care about redzone score percentage... it's touchdowns that matter. So here is the fact of the matter.

OSU has had 28 red zone possessions and 23 TDs. The only other team with at least 20 TDs who could match this is LSU who has 22 in 27 visits.

On Defense they have seen 13 trips with their back against the end zone. 3 freaking touchdowns. 3! Not even 25% of the time an opponent has entered the red zone did they get 6. All three of those were scored on majority backups late in the FAU game and late in the Nebraska game. The only other team that can compare is Florida who gave up their scores on the first team against Miami and Kentucky.

There are many places we can look for why this team has performed well. But RZ TD% is one of the biggest. ≈82% of the time the O scores a TD and only gives up a TD ≈23% of the time in the Red Zone.

Ok enough rambling, that just blew my mind and had to share
