I was thinking on how to best use this new redshirt rule and it is not as simple as it may initially seem.  For the top teams.. rather than a 4 game trial.. it's really a 2 game trial for any potential high impact players.. you want to save the last 2 for the playoff and a game that potentially may never happen.  I wonder if they should tweak this rule to be 4 games + the post season.  Imagine Bama last year if they had used Tua in 4 games before the playoff last year..  I imagine no way that kid redshirts anyway.. but what if he was totally on the shelf till November... he could have snuck in a redshirt year and won his team a NC... 

I feel that there are two groups of freshman now.. the traditional freshman who would redshirt normally would play in 2-4 of the first four games... the top freshmen who would play will play regardless.. and the borderline play or not play freshman would be on the shelf essentially till November.. saving them for TTUN and the post season... 

Any thoughts on how UM3 may use the new rule?
