Ohio State's Luke Farrell is one of 64 tight ends on the preseason watch list for this year's John Mackey Award, which was released Friday.
Farrell, a redshirt sophomore who was a four-star recruit in the class of 2016, is in line to be the Buckeyes' starting tight end for the first time this season. His inclusion on the list comes despite the fact that he played only 107 snaps, catching only two passes for 19 yards, as the third-string tight end last season.
Farrell is one of 11 Big Ten tight ends on the watch list, joined by Illinois' Louis Dorsey, Iowa's Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson, Purdue's Cole Herdman, Penn State's Jonathan Holland, Michigan's Sean McKeon, Wisconsin's Zander Neuville and Kyle Penniston, Nebraska's Jack Stoll and Rutgers' Jerome Washington.
