At the American Football Coaches Association head coaches' meeting in January, a proposed rule change to allow college football players to play as many as four games and still redshirt was met with "unanimous" support, according to AFCA executive director Todd Berry.
That proposal was not met by unanimous support from the NCAA's Division I Council, however, which tabled the proposal on Wednesday.
The decision not to move forward with the proposal was one of several decisions made by the Division I Council in meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, including a proposal that was passed that bans former players from participating in practices at their former schools.
