A lot of people keep referring to head-to-head being the decisive factor if a playoff spot comes down to Penn State or Ohio State, and sure, I agree...

IF IT'S A TIE!

That's the, ahem, minor detail that some folks seem to forget--Penn State isn't tied with Ohio State, so people need to stop pretending that nothing else matters except a head-to-head result.

Beyond that single factor, Penn State has one more loss than the Buckeyes while their schedule, wins, stats, and eye test don't stack up--only what will amount to the technicality of a conference championship can add to their argument, but the Committee isn't going to reward a playoff spot to a team on the basis of a technicality.

To underscore the logic, or rather, the lack thereof, if one were to presume that head-to-head is the sole deciding factor, period, then, hmm... shouldn't Pitt go to the playoffs before Penn State, since Pitt beat them head to head?

Oh, but then--wait--Oklahoma State beat Pitt, so they deserve to go, I mean, except for the fact that Central Michigan beat them, so the Cowboys deserve to go, that is, if it weren't for the fact that Kent State beat them, so they'd get the nod, but not over North Carolina AT&T, which beat Kent State, although the Aggies lost to Tulsa, which lost to Navy, which lost to Air Force, which lost to New Mexico, which lost to Rutgers, so...

There you have it: The Scarlet Knights clearly deserve a playoff spot! But then, not if Kent State or NC AT&T have anything to say about it!
