Ohio State women’s tennis’ run to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals came to an unceremonious close on Saturday.
The No. 3 Buckeyes, which made their second-ever NCAA Tournament Semifinal appearance, fell short of a trip to the NCAA National Championship, losing 4-1 to No. 2 Auburn in Athens, Georgia.
The Buckeyes could not capture the doubles point, as Auburn quickly won two matches. Despite a win from junior Teah Chavez, Auburn held onto the overall victory thanks to singles wins from junior Ava Esposito, senior Angella Okutoyi and sophomore Merna Refaat.
Ohio State has previously appeared in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals just once, coming in 2017, when the Buckeyes fell to Stanford.
Auburn advances to the NCAA National Championship, where the Tigers will meet either No. 1 Georgia or No. 4 Texas A&M on Sunday at 7 p.m.
