One Prime Example of Why Gus Johnson Might Be the Most Exciting Announcer in College Football

First, I have to confess: I love Gus Johnson’s calls of Ohio State games.  He injects so much enthusiasm and almost sounds like a hometown announcer when something significant happens—but he’s not, and that to me is part of his appeal.

I have posted excerpts below from two of the most pivotal and dramatic Buckeye plays of the past decade; one, the 85-yard run by Zeke against Bama was, many would contend, THE play of the decade.

But the call by Brad Nessler—which I think is representative of how many announcers would describe the action—is not at the same intensity level as that exhibited by Gus Johnson in describing the blocked punt against TTUN in 2018.

In fact, I still practically get goosebumps hearing Gus’s call of that play.

I would one day love to hear Gus and Joel do the broadcast of a CFP title game featuring THE Ohio State University.
