Saw an article that indicated that former OSU OC Tom Herman (obligatory: Founder of Mensa) is going to have his contract at Houston restructured/extended to be more competitive and make it more difficult for him to choose to leave/harder for other schools to poach him. He currently makes $3M per year and had a $5M bonus if Houston was accepted to a P5 conference (read: Big 12, but that isn't happening now). He has a contract buyout of $2.5 million if he decides to leave before 2/28/2017.
Given that there may be some prime HC jobs available this year (LSU, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon), what does Houston need to offer Herman to make it impossible for him to leave?
IMHO, I think it will take $4.5M/yr + bonuses (NY6 bowl, etc.) and an expanded salary for his staff, in addition to the facilities upgrades that UH is planning.
Whether he stays or goes after this season, Tom Herman is going to get paid $$$.
