Yeesh.  As if this situation couldn't get any worse for the Trojans.  I have to say, though, I'm not surprised this is going to court.  Most states have laws protecting people against being fired for a medical condition, and substance addiction does qualify as one.  Still, this doesn't exactly do anything for the guy if he wants to get another coaching job in the future- like, say, the one currently open at his alma mater.
