Ohio State overcomes a slow start to beat Ohio 37-9 in the Horseshoe.
First up in our medley for this week we have a wonderful song from one of the masters of progressive and experimental metal music. When it comes to Opeth, it's best to think of them as death metal that got injected with jazz, and then turned into something like prog rock, albeit retaining a dark and occult edge to their lyrics and sounds. This song, one of their most famous, comes from their transitional album, Watershed. This is a live performance of "The Drapery Falls." (Song starts about a minute in)
Next up is a song I just heard ten minutes ago, because it's only just been released on the band's Youtube channel. This song is one of the tracks from the forthcoming Interpol album "Marauder." I'm excited for the album, although if I'm being perfectly honest, this particular song has some work to do before it becomes one of my favorites. I will say it starts off very promising, with a riff that reminds me of something from their first two albums, but then it takes a shift to something...different. This is "Number 10"
Next is a track from a rapper who I probably haven't given enough shrift in the past. Childish Gambino/Donald Glover was one of my favorite parts of the show Community, but for whatever reason I've never gotten into his music, which is a shame because when I sat down to listen to this song, "3005," I really liked what I heard.
Last up, we're going to mix it up a bit with something a little...obscure. This song by Iranian rock band Radio Tehran first came to my attention when I watched the truly excellent Farsi vampire/horror/romance/noir/western film "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night." It reminded me, in places, of a Joy Division song. This is "Gelaye" by Radio Tehran.
