What's up, everyone? As I tear into a delicious Pub-Sub (a sub sandwich prepared by the fine people at the Publix Deli, for all you unfortunate enough to not live in an area with Publix grocery stores), I'm sitting down and going through a small catalogue of all the excellent music to have graced the video games of my childhood and early adulthood. We're going to start off strong.

And what's stronger than the Mjolnir? No, not Thor's hammer, but the armor of John-117, AKA Sierra 117, AKA Spartan 117, AKA The Master Chief. This song comes from Halo 2, and is often called the "Mjolnir Remix" of Halo's classic theme. It was performed by none other than Steve Vai, perhaps the greatest (or certainly among the top 3) living American guitarist. If this won't take you back to the Halcyon days of fighting a bunch of 12 year olds in the spinning wind turbine on Zanzibar, I don't know what will.

Next we have a track from a newer game, one that made a big splash when it came out in 2016. This song, from the Old Hunters DLC of 2016's Bloodborne, is the music that plays when you reach the second phase of the boss battle with Ludwig the Accursed/The Holy Blade. The song is strident and martial and epic, much like what you'd expect to hear in a battle of gods and demons. This is "Ludwig the Holy Blade."

Next is a song that always takes me back to my first year in college when Elder Scrolls: Skyrim first came out. I just remember beginning to play the game and being absolutely blown away by the detail of the world, the richness of the setting, and the incredible atmospheric experience of playing through the quests. This is the theme of the central character of that epic game, the Dragon Born.

This edition wouldn't really be complete if we didn't go back for some old school video game music. In this case, what's more old school than the original theme for Super Mario Bros?

What about y'all? What are your favorite songs/tracks from video games?
