Noted science fiction writer Harlan Ellison has died at the age of 84 (Thanks Stxbuck). Born in Painesville, OH, he attended Ohio State for a year and a half before leaving for LA. The story is one of his professors said he would never have a writing career and he threw a punch resulting in his expulsion. Ellison sent him copies of published works for years.

Ellison wrote many short stories and books, including "A Boy and His Dog", “Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman,” and “Dangerous Visions” and “Again Dangerous Visions.”

He wrote for many TV Shows, including the Twilight Zone, the Outer Limits, the Man from U.N.C.L.E., and the Flying Nun. One of his most famous works on TV may be The City on the Edge of Forever for Star Trek.

Highly protective of his creative vision, the TV show Starlost was his creation but he was not happy with how his work was used that he refused to have his name on it; instead it used his nom de plume "Cordwainer Bird."

His mark on science fiction is enormous and is credited with helping create the much more darker visions in modern science fiction.
