3 of the greatest ball players

Nolan Ryan one of if not the greatest pitchers. Unfortunately I never got the joy of watching him pitch. Ryan retired before I was born.

Before hanging up his spikes at age 46, Ryan topped the 300-win mark and hurled a record seventh no-hitter as a member of the Texas Rangers.

Jackie Robinson, what can I say that already hasn't been said. He changed the game and sports in general when he broke the color barrier. 42 is the only number retired by the entire mlb.

At the end of his first season, Robinson was named the Rookie of the Year. He was named the NL MVP just two years later in 1949, when he led the league in hitting with a .342 average and steals with 37, while also notching a career-high 124 RBI. The Dodgers won six pennants in Robinson’s 10 seasons, but his contributions clearly extended far beyond the field.

Ernie Banks, Mr. Cub became the first African American to play for the Cubs. Unfortunately he never got the opportunity to play in the postseason.

Banks was a member of 11 NL All-Star teams. In a 1969 Chicago Sun-Times fan poll, he was voted the “Greatest Cub Ever.” He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1977. Along with Honus Wagner and Cal Ripken, Jr., he was one of three shortstops named to Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team in 1999.
