“Ducks” entered my world at a very young age through cartoons and I enjoyed many hours of TV watching giants like Donald and Daisy Duck as well as Huey, Dewey, and Louie. My favorite cartoon duck by far was Daffy. Equipped with his fiery quick temper and drive to be a bigger star than Bugs, he brought us Duck Dodgers of the 24 and a half century along with The Scarlett P-p-p-pumpernickel. He also made famous rabbit season over duck season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17ocaZb-bGg Ducks also made a splash in the hospital setting with the male urinal named “the duck”. Where would men be? Ducks also made their presents in human emotional development with useful quips such as water off a ducks back, getting your ducks in a row and the duck test (if it quacks like a duck). It was also helpful when you learned to “duck” when the bully on the playground threw that hay maker at you. Then there were ducks you wanted to avoid such as a sitting duck or a dead duck. They also entered the fashion scene with the ducks butt and duck tail haircuts which gave us many hours of laughter. Rubber ducks were also important being a big part of hygiene by inspiring many a child as well as grownups during bath time. Then during the Cuban missile crises of the 1960’s, as children we were herded into hallways and at the bell would “duck and cover” to save our lives just in case a nuclear bomb happened to land nearby. (You know the South Park thing.) So “Ducks” have been important to us and if a small lost duckling wonders up to you and asks you if you are his momma, look down with kindness and answer “NO, I’m a buckeye. I’m your DADDY.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYX_esj8yKA GO BUCKS!
