What if Rutgers wasn't bad at football, but, you know, actually good? What would that look like? Well, it'd start with New Jersey prospects staying in New Jersey.

While that may be considered a felony in many states, that's not how Chris Ash and Rutgers see it. The university released a hype video on Tuesday (seen above) and its goal is to help instill a sense of home state pride in recruits seeking pastures with more championship trophies.

From nj.com:

"New Jersey happens to be the state in the Big Ten that has the second-most top ranked recruits in it (after Ohio)," Ash said. "What would we look like if our players in this state had the type of pride and wanted to go to Rutgers like players in Ohio want to go to Ohio State? I think we would build an outstanding football program. Our job is to create that pride."

A 2-1/2 minute video won't create that pride, but it's part of the package as Ash continues to build recruiting relationships.

"I think we're doing a lot of great things within the walls of the Hale Center and it's our job to get that out there," Ash said. "We want recruits, we want high school coaches, we want parents to know the type of environment we're creating here in our building. The way we're developing our players, the type of accountability that we have in our program, the vision that we have for this program and the future — it's our job to sell that every single day."

Smarmy jokes aside, Rutgers' 2017 class is currently ranked No. 25 in the country. Texas is No. 27. Makes you think.
