No buckeye leaves, and I don't hope they are permanent and I hope they never do a pro-combat for the GAME ever again. That being said this might be my favorite version of the pro-combat jerseys.
EDIT: I got a couple down votes, so if anyone took offense to my terse comments I apologize, but I just don't think that OSU needs to do anything outrageous with their uniforms the way that other schools might for a regular uniform. I don't mind pro-combats in general, but for the GAME I want the traditional uniforms. Let the seniors show off their buckeye stickers one last time against ttun.
I really like the oversized numbers on the shoulders and the chrome-ish tinge the helmet has, but I'm not a big fan of the black facemasks or the font of the numbers.
Things always look better when they are in a picture taken in a studio. They are by far the best pro combats but when you see them out on the feild they probably wont look as exiting as they look in the picture. I love our uniforms and I really hope we dont change them.
Is it just me or wouldn't the high polished chrome helmets be even better???
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got nine guys who better go do it again. Do it a little harder next time." -- Urban Frank Meyer -- I LOVE THIS DUDE!! :)
I hate the current jerseys as well. Always hated that the grey was taken off a few years back. Too close to Wisky jerseys. These are much truer to the last few national championship teams. I love these. Especially if they are permanent. Double especially if they have the leaves ...
These helmets do give a clean look although I do understand people not wanting to change our current ones.... I think either way you can't go wrong. There are always going to be people that hate changes but honestly how many times have we changed our jerseys in the past? A hell of a lot!!
All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
If they do change helmets.... hypothetical.....maybe they could change the Buckeye Sticker as well, a hologram type Buckeye leaf on the chromed out dome.
I would be all for a permenant change to a modified version of this. Keep the original number font without the gray trim and use our regular helmets and these would be great. I love the giant shoulder numbers.
I'm not a fan of the reflective numbers and I want the Buckeye leafs on the helmet. I do really like these jerseys though. I hope the real ones look as cool.

When you look at some of the alternate unis we've trotted out these are just pretty good. Of course, one has to wonder why they are messing with perfection. I'm $ure that I don't know the an$wer to that que$tion though...
Should have used these for Nebraska game. Would look even better for night game under the lights, and even though I like the look, I am not a fan of using alternate unis for The Game. Although, it can only help in recruiting with all of the big time recruits that will be there on Saturday.
Maybe it's just my color blindness, but in all of the "studio" photos it looks like the numbers are white with gray trim... but in the link Vasanthananth posted, the picture of Philly Brown's jersey looks like the numbers are gray with white trim?
I noticed this already. That uni does not match the release. That number is silver. The release shows white with a silver trim, which looks WAY better. So which is it?
When people say "traditional" I get a bit confused. We're not Oregon but we ain't exactly Penn State - we change (tweak) our Unis often enough (last time in 06 I believe).
Gotta say I like the numbers in the banner pic - don't like the grey ones on Raymont above :-(
As others have said, I like the uniform in the release much better than the photos with the solid gray numbers. It will be interesting to see which one shows up on Sunday. I do go back a long way with the bucks and respect the history, but i like that jersey better than our current jersey!
With respect to the comment on the gray stripes (see quote below):
The Earle Bruce teams did have a similar stripe to the current uniform, but that was a change from the prior uniform, which featured the gray stripes (classic Woody teams from the 60s and 70s). Cooper brought them back in '88 where they remained until the 2006 change. Not sure when it started, but the stripes on this uniform from 1955 look familiar!
I am the minority that likes the current unis. I think this is a nice pull for 1 game but I will buy the jersey if they sell it. One thing's for sure: They will not make this a permanent change, so for those of you that want this to happen, it won't. There's too many imperfections to make it the permanent jersey.
Didn't Urban say in the the spring that the players pick the uniform they will wear, but only after Archie gives the ok? I wonder if they had any say in this uni also
Gotta love the use of Archie's number for the prototype. These have grown on me as have most of the nike pro combat designs. Having grown up in the 90's those are the best uniforms for me, followed by the current ones. I never liked the look of the uniforms from the 60's until I saw this version with a modern twist and I have to say I like it alot.
Our honor defend we will fight to the end for Ohio..
i like it... but ive always liked pro combat stuff. i can also understand why traditionalist like it one way, however, the recruits really like design changes
Here is precisely why I argue that what is going on with the uniform today is a perfectly acceptable and optimal balance between progress and tradition:
The uniform with the current stripe set does have a tradition, and in my opinion, is best, because of one reason. The stripe (home) correlates between the helmet, shoulders, and pants. They each have the pattern of black, white, scarlet, white, black. I think this is pretty neat and matches well. The away uniform's shoulder stripe goes black gray scarlet gray black, which is different.
Pro-combat uniforms are really awesome when used sparingly (meaning once a year) and there is no reason a team can't get them once and a while. It's something the players can get real pumped about and yes, help recruiting. I'm a kid who just started his freshman year of college and played football in H.S., and let me tell you, we always thought Oregon's uniforms were legit.
In Tim May's article in the Dispatch, he confirmed the seniors had a say in the design, and the players love the alt uni's. That's all I had to hear to say we should do it. It's all about them and not us.
Keep: Wide helmet stripe, gray jersey numbers, black player names, big shoulder numbers
Get rid of: jersery stripes - they're almost as awful as what's on the current home uni's. Look, the new cut/style of jersey just doesn't translate to stripes any more, pro or college. Get rid of the stripes all together, maybe put a Buckeye leaf patch on there instead.
Neutral: The "soft-chrome" helmet. OSU has the best helmet in all of sport. I'm okay with the chrome as long as it doesn't look like a roll-on deoderant applicator. And there has to be a place for Buckeye leaf helmet stickers.
"Buclkle your chinstrap, we're gonna grind meat!" - Woody Hayes
I'm guessing the jersey numbers have always been the gray/silver that we see in the latest picture but you couldn't tell because of the reflection which made them look white.
That being said, I thought the effect of white numbers with gray stitching was pretty awesome. I still like the jerseys, just not as much as I did when I thought the numbers were going to be white.
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
These uniforms are hot! I would have rather the numbers been white with silver/grey outlining but they look pretty nice. Im not sure how some of you can complain about these uni's, they look similar to the old uni's with a added touch of flare. I dont mind them at all...
I actually really like these uniforms. For tradition though I would like to see neither team change for "the game" or I would liike to see OSU's current helmet or stickers put on these.
One thing I think I would like to keep is the buckeye leaves for each national championship. It would be cool to just remind everyone all the time of how many we won and have players shoot to add one for the following year. I suppose at some point it would get crowded and you might have to devise a new system, but for now I think that would be a pretty neat touch that wouldn't deviate from tradition much.
Also since there is actually space for helmet stickers on this one, it would be cool if they put 7 on each helmet to also represent the championships.
I absolutely love the helmets. Jersey could use some tweaks, but not a bad prototype for something in the future. The helmets are fantastic, though. Love the chrome stripe.
Those aren't even them exactly. The photos leaked of Corey Brown's uniform show that the numbers have the shiny/chrome-ish gray material with white outline. These pictures show vice versa.
I went to Buckeye Corner today and was told that Nike has decided not to release these to the public.
I wanted to call BS because they would sell quite a bit and make a lot of money. Figured it was just a ploy to try and sell the jerseys they already have.
Will the buckeye leaves be put on?
I actually think its a possibility that they put the leaves on...

Great. Now we look like a cross between UNLV and Wazzu.
For people complaining about the sleeve stripe change in '06 the current stripes are actually what they were before the gray stripes.

Rock stupid. Crass commercialism at its typical 21st-century consumerist American worst.
And it's spelled "fogies," not "foggies." We "traditionalists" are sticklers for spelling, too.

I think I like them. We'll see on Saturday.
Urban Warfare
Uni=Sick. Helmet is ultra=sick. Could go without the black for the players name. But I am a fan.
Maybe it's just my color blindness, but in all of the "studio" photos it looks like the numbers are white with gray trim... but in the link Vasanthananth posted, the picture of Philly Brown's jersey looks like the numbers are gray with white trim?
@ M Tots This photo tweeted by Brandon Castel seems to support your theory that the numbers are indeed greyish
@VasanthAnanth, nice find. Makes me wonder how long ago the studio pics were taken and why they decided to make the change.
I'm also curious as to whether OSU or Nike has more say in the design of the jerseys.
Does anyone know if or when they will start selling these jerseys to the public?
I noticed this already. That uni does not match the release. That number is silver. The release shows white with a silver trim, which looks WAY better. So which is it?
@KBONAY Guess we will find out Saturday!
The Gerdzone pic of the back shows Silver numbers with a white trim. Easier to see in this photo:
http://twitpic.com/beqmy3
^I prefer KBONAY's pic (gray numbers with the white trim). LOVE the uniform though, top to bottom! The helmet is just ridiculous (in a great way).
I like them, but a little too much black.
vacuuming sucks
Loving them. I wish Buckeye leaves were worked in somehow, but other than that I think they're great.
The thick stripes on the helmet and pants look awesome.
Those helmets will be a scary sight for Denard/Gardner/whoever the hell else hoke throws back there.
It's 11:13 PM and m!c#!g@n still sucks.

Not much, but there are seven buckeye leaves (assuming represnting 7 titles, 7 Heismans) on the back collar

It seems to me that the gray stripes have a long history. And they certainly look the best in my opinion.
The helmets look to be chrome on one side and a light gold color on the other side.
The numbers on the jerseys look to be the same light gold color.
@ TP
That's just the lighting and the red carpet. It's Silver.

Wow, I might actually buy this one. I wouldn't mind if they just made these the permanant Pro-Combat unis for every year.
Here is precisely why I argue that what is going on with the uniform today is a perfectly acceptable and optimal balance between progress and tradition:

I love the unis but wish they weren't used for the game. I'm a big fan of both teams wearing their home unis. USC/ucla always looks pretty slick.
@Mack - I *think* USC/UCLA do that because both teams are viewed as playing at home. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this.
