Purely speculation at this point. It originated from the Scout board and Zach at TSB (same source or one copying the other)? Jerry Emig (OSU Communications) commented to Dave Biddle @247 and said he had no idea on the matter. Adolphus Washington has passed him as the backup to Hank, as was said at OSU Media Day today.
So it's not confirmed, and wouldn't be surprising. Where there's smoke there's usually fire. Plus consider Bennett, Miller, and now Spence pushing for time on the line...
I don't know if this is true or not either, but I have said many times before he didn't impress me at all the last few years, so I wouldn't be surprised if all the imcoming freshmen and miller are passing him for time, not saying goebell is leaving but I woudln't be surprised if people pass him on the depth chart either.
They're waiting on official confirmation over @247sports. It sounds like he's out though.
With that said, I think our class can get to 22-23 recruits for '13. You gotta think some of these receivers won't make it. As camp progresses, more and more guys getting passed up and realize playing time at Ohio State is not gonna happen. I really think we can squeeze in between 21-23 for '13 as long as they're the right guys.
I suppose we'll prolly bank the schollies for '14 tho.
we are at 16 recruits so far for this year, who would be the 6-7 guys we would sign? I don't see that many guys coming in with this class, probably 2 more WR, 1 OL, 1 LB, and possible Vonn bell as the 5th to make 21, but new recruits could surface also so it could end up being that big.
Guys that would come and we'd take given the spots
1. LB Mike Mitchell
2. LB Tyquan Lewis
3. S Vonn Bell
4. OL/DL Donovan Munger
5. WR Shelton Gibson
6. WR James Quick
7. Dorian Johnson
That's 7.
Other potentials could be LB/S Christopher Worley (if he gets offered), LB Daniel McMillain, WR Marquez North, WR Robert Foster, OL Dennis Finley, RB David Williams as well as other players who blow up their senior year.
Was never impressed with Bellamy. Solid, but nothing special. Best of luck to him if he goes elsewhere. (He's going elsewhere, otherwise Emig wouldn't say "he doesn't know" about the situation.
According to Tim May's sources, he hadn't been around the team in a few days. With the talent on the depth chart, sometimes it's better to look elsewhere. Especially if he got beat out by Adolphus for backing up Hank, as was reported.
@OhioThomas1, I have to think the staff had to know before the last 24 hours if Bellamy was questioning his place on the team. Seems like Ja'Juan Story was only told there was no spot in the last day or two. But either way I doubt this would affect WR depth/recruiting.
With what Meyer said about a good "chunk" of freshmen playing on Defense...this very well could be true. I had a feeling this may start to happen in Fall camp like it did before Spring. Some I feel are seeing the writing on the wall. This very well may be speculation at this point...but don't be surprised if it turns out true.
As for Story, it's hard for me to see the staff using a scholarship for someone who will have to sit out a year. I'm not sure Ju'Juan's that good...we'll see if this ends up true with Bellamy what may happen with all that...could be interesting.
To Hayze above: Worley already has an offer...he probably will commit...if allowed to do so. We'll see if Bell commits...I'd like to see them take both just not sure they will.
Below: I said 3-4 more by the end of the season...most thought I was nuts...not now huh(already 3 in the Fall if this is true, Boebek, Hayes and now Bellamy)? Like you over/under at 3 1/2;-)

Wasn't impressed by production however if gone, good luck in his future...Real competion in camp, and for playing time is a welcome change...No knock i just felt some guys were gifted spots and had no fear of being taken out or having to share reps (T Howard comes to mind).
The staff is counting on these type of guys to leave, if they wanted to make room for Story they would have found a way. Anymore players leaving will not open a spot for Bellemy, just clear up how many scholarships they can use for this years class.
Regardless of starting or not, the staff does a good job of rotating in players on the d-line to keep players fresh. Bellamy would have had played a lot. I hope he just been sick. He's a solid contributor.
One thing that is starting to annoy me is that everyone thinks that a player who is announced to be leaving or on the way out is counted as another player that can be offered. We're already projecting 20-22 spots, but we cannot do it right now. We don't have the spots. We're waiting for players to leave for this to happen.
Also, the guy isn't officially leaving yet. Maybe he is; maybe he isn't. Even if he is, his spot is now the subject of discussion and it isn't even cold yet. I find this to be in poor taste. Let's all just say, "I hope he finds a nice situation for himself, whereever he goes next" if and when the time is appropriate.
@Buckeyejason It's possible that he's underperformed and seen his spot slip away. It seems Bennett has been taking more and more reps over Bellamy before his absence
OR there will be more spots in the 2014 class. It's not all about 2013. More top talent has interest in OSU in the 2014 class, than there is/was in 2013, so I wouldn't expect 23 in this class.
Agree with Miles above^^^^ I think they should save them for 2014 too...use more for that class and one extra for this years. Urban and the staff have more time to get to know the 2014 kids and get their talons in them so they don't go elsewhere...like a couple did this year (before or after committing).

We would have a very small group of seniors for the 2014 class, so we might bank some. We actually have a relatively large class of seniors this year but the penalties took some away.
To Jason above: Mean no harm by this before I say it...You need to go check out the picture slide show from Media Day and take a look at Adolph Washington. Please don't tell me you don't understand Bellamy jettisoning (elsewhere in B1G for sure IMO) after peeping that pic. He's a monster and should be back up behind Big Hank. No doubt just on eye test alone...also what I saw him do in practice on youtube...he's good.

Ive seen Adolphus, great talent..but I also witnessed Adam Bellamy go H.A.M on Wisconsin.
Im also pretty sure Adolphus needs to adjust and keep developing to become a solid backup to Hank at tackle. Totally different ball game going against Big Ten O-Lineman compared to Cincinatti public school preps.
Buckeyejason, I know he is a senior and it is still unknown if he is leaving or not. But idk how you can say this was a surprise and that bellamy was verygood. He was part of a defense that sacked the opposing QB hardly ever. I am not a football scout or no much about evaluating players. But from watching every game, I was not impressed with him at all and it made me worry even more that we didn't have anyone better then him to put in the game. I am quite sure the incoming freshmen and or Bennett, hale, schutt are better then him. I think he should stay though for his senior year no reason to bolt with one year left, Stay and graduate from OSU.
I think players got complacent with Tressel, he always played seniors and upperclassmen because they had seniority. I think players like bellamy thought they would play just because they had been playing and starting. And I think a lot of players got put straight that just cause you played last year doesn't mean you will play this year. Meyer will play the best guy no matter if he is a senior or freshmen imo. that is something Tress didn't always do.
Bellamy has been a productive player and he would have been in the d-line rotation this year, regulary. You don't ever want to lose a guy like that. It actually upsets me that some are bagging on him or are already counting a new scholarship.
Adam Bellamy is a Buckeye until we hear otherwise. Support him or find another team.
Alex Root... You are putting making conclusions for Bellamy. I honestly think players know they need to produce in order to play. They'd have be stupid to think they just have to wait their time in order to play. That is a misconception about Tress... He didn't always play upperclassmen over underclass men. Pryor over Boeckman is probably the biggest example of that.
You said something about being a part of a defense that hardly sacked the QB? So do you consider Simon and Hankins crap too?
Bellamy is a solid player, he'll be a tough loss to have on the line. We're already at 79 or 80 scholarship players with the departure Klein, Hayes, and the kid who transferred to Minnesota (his name escapes me). Bellamy was a starter and though he might not be one of the 4 best of the line, we rotate players on the line constantly and if we experience some injury we need the depth.
I don't think Bellamy is a star or world beater by any means but he was a solid starter/rotator who could make a play here and there and always played hard..has a great motor..and people really underestimate how athletic he is at 6'4" and around 300 pounds.
Also, it was his first year starting last season and has two full seasons ahead of him to get better..can't expect guys to be stars their first year on the field.
Ok I am not saying they don't need to produce to play, but players do get comfortable knowing they will probably get playing time over other guys. Again I am not bashing him he is a decent player, but we have other guys who are better, Bennet, Hale, and others coming. I want OSU to play the best and be the best. Now can everyone say that Bellemy would start at Alabama,Florida,LSU, any top 10 team? most likely not.
I did not say Hankins, Simon are bad, but the defense as a whole did not get after the QB at all last year. Simon had 7 sacks which is very good but that 30% of the sacks we had as a team from one guy. I don't know why it is bad to say imo I don't think bellemy is that good and other players are better. nothing wrong with that, people say travis howard isn't good don't see people yelling at everyone who says that. All I know is our defense was not very good last year, we need to sack the QB probably double what we did last year, and I dont think bellamy helps, I would much rather play peope like Washington,Spence,Pittman and others we have a lot of depth at D-line we have so many guys, which is why I am not worried if he leaves, and obviously if he is leaving he isn't going to play so why is everyone up in arms about it. And I don't really care about the scholarships limit if he leaves either, just want the best guys to play.
I also said I hope he doesn't leave and stays.
OSU tied for 69th with East carolina in sacks last year, one guy from illinois had 16 by himself. Just saying the Defense needs to improve and hankins and simon can't do it all.
Obviously the defense needs to improve and get more sacks/pressure on the QB..any fool can see that from the disaster that was last year. So do you think freshman will make this defense elite and double the sacks from last year, is that what you're saying? I it is you're dreaming. The guys last played last year are the ones who will determine if we win a lot of games.
I disagree that the players that played last year will determine if they win a lot of games. That is on the defense of side, idk how you can discount spence washington, and other freshmen. Obviously the defense was not that good so the solution is play the exact same guys and hope they got better. I am not sure what the argument is here, obviously the coaches feel the same way about bellamy and a few others or this topic wouldn't even be here. Spence and Washington will have an impact on this defense this year mark it down, also micheal bennett will have a break-out year. As I have said before I just want to see the defense play well and play the best players and imo bellamy isn't the best.
I always thought that Bellamy was surprisingly agile and quick for his size. The guy was pretty good and could have put it together this year. I know that our D line depth will miss him.
How many sacks do Spence and Washington have as Ohio State Buckeyes? Exactly, they have the same amount of sacks as I do for the Buckeyes...0. Tackles? Forced Fumbles? Starts? Plays?
You can discount freshman because they haven't played one snap of college football yet. 5* guys every year go to big time schools and are supposed to start from day 1 and never figure it out. Heck, OSU has multiple guys on the roster now who were all world when they came in and didn't do anything as freshman (I'm looking mainly at the LB core for 2 obvious ones).
Of course I hope like you do that these guys come in and each have 12 sacks every year. But that's unrealistic too. Maybe these guys pan out, but maybe they don't. Bellamy has proven he can play college football
Bellamy gave his blood sweat and tears for this team for years, and to discount him like that, regardless of whether he was the best player on the field or not, is disrespectful IMO.
It'd be really bad if both he and Goebel left. That would trim our D-line depth down tremendously. If Washington, Schutt, Hale, Spence, and Pittman are ready to go, then fine, but those are 2 upper classemen that have proven to be decent to solid players. Plus, you can't exclude their leadership for the younger guys. Would be a shame.
Goebel is a senior...could never see him leaving..especially since hes a starter. have you ever seen a d-line full of freshman? Me neither. We would get bashed game in and game out.
First of all I can make my own opinion on players how I choose, and for you to seem so upset that I say bellamy isn't that good crazy. I never said I absoultly know what I am talking about and neither do any of us on here except 11W staff or maybe people who played for OSU or some collegeball. So I don't really care that you think my opinion is bad because it is that an opinion and so is yours. And I never said anything about goebel leaving. Also I never said any of the freshmen come in and get 12 sacks this year, I simply said they will have an impact on the team, I don't think it is unrealistic to say spence could get 3-5 sacks this year which is what bellamy has is whole career probably. I dont' commit much on playes on here and Its people like buckeyejason and others that make this an unfriendly site sometimes. I see you post a lot buckeyjason and I disagree a lot with what you have to say but I don't come on here and say you don't actually know what you are talking about.
This is an OHIO STATE Site, you can critize players all you want there is nothing wrong with that so please tell me why a player who probably will transer or not play that much is getting so much praise from 2 people? Ya he has put in work but so has everyone else, you guys are just like what I was talking about because he is an upperclassmen he should play thats dumb. If spence or washington or whoever is better then they shoud play even if they are a freshmen.
Seems like you are the one taking it a bit to seriously. And why do you have to be an 11W staffer to know what you're talking about when it comes to buckeye football? I watch the games just like they do.
For one its there job to evaluate players, and I watch the games just like you but my opinion doesn't count according to you. Can't have it both ways, and when Bellamy gets passed up by bennet, spence, washington and they have a solid year I won't say I told you so. And I am not taking it serious I just can't stand when people get ripped for making an opinion, and its obviously a somewhat accurate one if he is going to leave because he won't play, which means the coaches agree he wasn't that good. And I never said I want him to leave just said I don't think he is that good and someone will pass him on the depth chart.
I want you to have your opinion honestly. I am just saying that the way it sounded is you were happy he leaving so the freshman would have more snaps because, and I think you did say this, that they were better. I was disagreeing saying I think today Bellamy is a better player than them because he is more proven. I'm not getting into a fight but if everyone agreed then this message board would kinda be worthless
I am not saying everyone has to agree, I never said i wish he leaves, you are correct he is more proven obviosly because he has played. But my point is just that does he play over spence or somoene else becuase he is more proven even though another player could be better if he got the chance. Look at Shazier last year, he didn't start the first 4 games because he was unproven just like Braxton and we all know how it ended up for them. Can't always say freshmen can't always keep up when some of them can they just need the opportunity.
It's not like anyone is saying later to him or saying we don't care about what he's done to this point by putting in his time...this is a coaching as well as players decision (if it even happens). I'm looking at how it will benefit the team with or without him (and whether these "freshmen" have proven anything isn't the point. Last I heard, they're Buckeyes just like Bellamy). I know he's proven himself but he's not near our best DE or DT...facts are nothing I or anyone else can do anything about...

Bellamy was a really solid player. As good as Washington may be, I seriously doubt he would have gotten more PT. Read he left for family issues. Really doubt the PT guys. We have always rotated 8+.
I think it's funny how many of you jump to the conclusion he left due to playing time. He left for personal reasons and, per Vrabel, "we'll welcome him back with open arms." Does that sound like a kid who can't cut it? Not to mention all the pt he got last year. The really funny thing is when I read that this kid can't compete with a few freshman. What's this based on? That you know they were ranked high in recruiting? Get facts straight before posting all this crap.
Exactly! I've never heard once that Bellmay didn't cut it or wasn't improving..that's what was so suprising to me. The guy looked solid last year..basically first year on the field and has two years left, yet people want to drop him like a bad habit because Adolphus Washingon arrived.
Yeah, a little disappointing to see buckeye fans ready to write him off at the drop of a hat. He is an asset to the team and I hope he makes his way back.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I am sorry to here about is personal issues, the media apparently. Knows what they are but doesnt want to ttalk about it yet. But on 97.10 dave biddle i think it is said he was passed by Washington, and was 3rd on the depth chart at DT, idk if that had to do with his personall issues. I guess he doeant like playing dt and wants to play strongside DE also. I do hope he gets his issues taken care of and comes back to the team u never want players to leave like this.
Even if he comes back...by then...these others will or may jump in front. I'm hoping he comes back bc OSU needs as many DLinemen as possible. 2 or 3 deep really makes a difference in rotating those big uglies.

A-root

Buckeye06 and BuckeyeJason

A-root,
I want you to have your opinion honestly.
Not just freshman, he was already being passed by Bennett, who has gotten nothing but high praise from Meyer.

Im not ripping you apart by any means..everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's just debating things, not attacking you if that's what you think.

Agreed TOSUMAN.
