Choosing from Florida, Notre Dame, and Penn State July 7th, or 8th at The Opening on ESPN U. The Buckeyes are officially eliminated. My guess is Notre Dame.

Alex who?
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Unfortunate this whole thing played out the way it did. One of the weirder stories I've heard in the bizarre world of college recruiting.
Difficult to pick. Seemed to be a lean to ND, Farrell at Rivals is picking Florida, and word was that he loved the PSU visit. I'm going to go with ND.
Yeah I think he ends up at Notre Dame with Huerman.. That's a shame
He really slowed down his recruiting process; February is just around the corner. Good riddance, finally.
Who cares...
Who cares...

If he goes to psu.....then his dad might be one of if not the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen.
He's going to ND-you can bank on it. Fellow bash brother (Huerman) was recruiting him the second he comitted to ND and it payed off.
Bosa > Huerman and Assalone
It could be Penn State. He lives in Pennsylvania and seems to be big buddies with Adam Breneman, the TE OSU was pursuing who chose PSU earlier this year.
I really really hope he picks Penn State.
hahahaha
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Pffft.
Man there is a lot of butthurt flowing out of this post right now. Calling his dad Dr. Dickhead and calling him assalone? Nice folks.
It would be the irony of all ironies if he picks Penn State
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
I love Dr. Anzalone...he should say more glorious things about OSU after making them sound like criminals for not having the coaches holding his son's hand on the entire visit (and apparently at BW3s)...when isn't that or shouldn't that have been his job considering he's a "17 year old... away from home???

I'm with William. Its pretty petty. This is an 18 year old kid and his dad (who right or wrong was looking out for his kid's best interests) that people are getting so worked up over. Recruiting makes normal people go crazy.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
^^^Agreed with Brewster and William. Many, esp Bhop(you always seem to go over the top with your "opinions") act like they don't care yet continue to get their panties in a bunch. The situation is unfortunate but calling out a 17 year old kid and his parent, whether he overreacted or not, is pretty petty and yet another reason our fanbase gets a bad name.
Was hoping he came back, but will glad for this to be over.
why dont you guys just leave alex (anz)alone
It would seem that dickheads in our own fanbase make us look worse than Anzalone and his dad ever will.
I may disagree with calling his dad Dr. Dickhead. But his dad is pretty chilidish for what he did, it was clear they did it just to back out of the commit because he wanted his son to go to ND or somewhere more prestigious. So I have no problem calling his dad out for a douch move he pulled. He is an educated Dr. he should have known better then to do what he did. If he de-committed sure I would have been upset but the way it happend made it that much worse and if and when he picks ND I will be glad because they are a mediocre team at best.
Maybe he'll shock everyone and pick meatchicken.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Sounds like sour grapes to me. Missing out on recruit has become the end of the world....
I'd just like to remind everyone that 11W is lucky enough to be viewed not just by Ohio State fans but by recruits and school administrators too. There's no need to embaress ourselves as a fanbase by insulting these folks.
Notre Dame has been killing it on recruiting for a few years now. I hope we face them in a playoff and absolutely wipe the floor with them. Show Anzalone what he'd be missing out on.
With that said, I hope he has success. I just think that he and his father made fools of themselves, and that perception will grow exponentially if he picks Penn State.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
something about this makes me hope he ends uo at ND and becomes yet another average player from Notre Dame that ends up watching OSU win on the field... stilll wating for ND to win a meaningful bowl game
^^^My God, it just never ends. How in the hell can you sleep when you are essentially hoping that a 17 year old kid fails. He's not going to be a Buckeye...get over it.
I'd like to also point out that picking at ND's bowl success is about as ridiculous as those who point out our terrible bowl record against the SEC. ND has had good regular season victories, just like we have beaten the SEC in the regular season. Fixating on ONE game is kind of pointless.
The sooner this guys name is out of the headlines the better! Good riddance!
I for one am not a fan of him or his family. Not sour grapes. We lose kids all the time. It's the way it happened. His dad did not need to blame Ohio State for his son going out and partying on an UNOFFICIAL visit. Furthermore, Alex appears to be a drama queen to me. I could be wrong but that's just how I see it.
Hopefully he picks Penn State so we can play him every year.
Dead horse, meet Los Angeles PD. Or if that's in poor taste, Chris Brown.
Whatever he chooses, good luck to the kid. Hope he finds what he and his family were looking for.
He's about to make a decision that his future rides on. Its not like he's choosing what movie to see on a Friday night with his buddies. He's deciding where he will not only play football for 4 years, but also where he will receive a degree from. He liked what he saw in columbus enough to feel it was the r8ght fit. Then something changed. You can't be 100 percent sure that the whole creeper issue was in fact the sole reason he changed his mind. Could have been something else. Could have been a combination of issues. Either way, its no reason to disrespect a high school junior who obviously values the opinions and feelings of his family. If he chooses penn state, so be it. If he chooses nd, so be it. Its his decision and has absolutely no bearing on my life. It only affects him. Good luck to you alex, wherever you land. And best wishes to you as well.
I was more disappointed in losing out on Jaylon Smith. I hope that they both do well. I have three kids, and I can understand how someone might act irrationally if they thought that there kids were put in a bad situation (whether true or not, that was his perception). The guy retracted his comments.
Next year is the year of the linebackers that we have a shot at. Dante Booker, Clifton Garrett, Raekwon "the Chef" McMillan and who knows what will happen with Ferns in the future. I have a feeling that recruits (and their fathers) this year looked at last year's insanity of riches in our linebacker class and thought that there looked to be a hell of alot of competition here.
Maybe the whole thing is a backhanded compliment.
I'm not name calling, or would I want anyone to resort to name calling. I just think it's very hypocritical of his dad to call out Ohio State for a situation Ohio State had no control over but when they did find out they alerted student athletes, while at the same time to even consider psu where they had a child predator working in the football program and after retirement still hanging around campus with the head coach and higher ups knowing what sandusky had done.
That is correct.
Taquitos.
^^^ That's quacktastic!
It's been interesting. We're lucky to have the recruits we have. Time for everyone to move on. FWIW...Everyone on this site would have loved this kid to be a Buckeye. Just Saying.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
I absolutely wanted him to be a Buckeye....heck I was still wishing for him to reconsider....but I stand by my last post none the less....."I just think it's very hypocritical of his dad to call out Ohio State for a situation Ohio State had no control over but when they did find out they alerted student athletes, while at the same time to even consider psu where they had a child predator working in the football program and after retirement still hanging around campus with the head coach and higher ups knowing what sandusky had done."
Onward and upward. Best of luck to the guy--seems like a good kid overall. Just an unfortunate circumstance, and we lost a solid guy for it. Methinks that he'll regret his decommitment more than we will his. Besides, 2014's linebacker crop is looking mighty good right now...
Good luck to him. I am glad though because we did not need the drama that he and his dad caused.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
2014 is loaaaaded with LBs. They all look to be better prospects than this Anzalone kid. Not a big loss. Not getting personal - but just saying...LB isn't a position of real need any longer.

etc.
Clearly the staff wanted Alex, that means something no matter how many LB's there are in 2014.
Im only mad that our coaches kept recruiting him after he de-commited. Waste of time.
it's hard not to be a little bitter about this one, because he's a good player and a good kid. i hope he goes to a big ten school (i guess that's penn state at this point) so we can play him and have a little closure if you know what i mean =] go bucks
It really is astonishing the amount of hypocricy/butthurt that comes from some of the folks on this site. Especially concerning recruiting. (17yr old kids btw)
"Dr dickhead", "assalone", wishing failure on a 17yr old, ect. ect.
Take two seconds and think before you hit send.
*fixed an error.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
^ dead on Buckeyeeddie27
couldn't agree more. According to some (PAM).... everyone on this comment baord is very nice, respectable, blah blah blah......what BS! Let's hate a kid and his dad because he changed his mind.... We have plenty of jaggoffs ourselves!!
I don't think anyone on here has any reason to show ill will toward the kid, but his father is clearly an enormous hypocrite for still considering Penn State for his son.
As for you people calling out folks on here for being "butthurt", quit acting like this is the frickin Wall Street Journal. It's a message board on a collegiate sports website, one out of several you can easily find on the internet. It's a place to come and vent about this kind of stuff. I don't see anybody making any threats or anything, it's just harmless banter. Ease up on the "Holier than thou" attitude.
@sox, If I come across as "holier than thou" for calling out overreacting childish users using foul language on a free site that prefers you don't.... I can live with that.
If you've ever read any of my comments its obvious I dont take this stuff too seriously. "wall st journal" get real.
What I do take seriously is people making ignorant comments and calling complete strangers dickheads and displaying the exact type of behavior we all love to pounce on and call out as trashy when we see it from other school's fans.
As some have said before me, this site and its users try to hold themselves to a higher standard than that. If you dont like that, then go to another one of those easily found sites.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
@SOX33OSU, because it is to "easily found" one would expect recruits to find is easy as well. The way we speak about them has an effect, they have indicated this to Alex and others, and we cna HURT the very thing we are here to find out about. It's harmless if it is a bunch of guys in a room and no recruit heard them calling them names and spouting off frustration... but this is public information that recruits read, making it very harmful.
It's not a holier than though attitude, it is understanding that recruits read this stuff. I can't imagine any fan wanting to hurt their program, yet we stick our heads in the ground and act like there is nothing wrong with calling a kid names. As a fan, I'd rather not make the coaches jobs any harder... it;s not somehing the recruits should "just get over" either, they are 17...
buckeyeEddie27, I came here because the douchebaggery seemed a little lower. The staff has seemed to be a little more clear on guidelines for keeping that down. This issue being one of them.
Some of the criticism is false flag. Even in something so far removed from actually being important it happens.
At this point I couldnt care less where he goes..... Next!!!
"couldn't agree more. According to some (PAM).... everyone on this comment baord is very nice, respectable, blah blah blah......what BS! Let's hate a kid and his dad because he changed his mind.... We have plenty of jaggoffs ourselves!!"
I would prefer you kept my name out of your mouth. How's that for very nice, respectful, blah, blah blah?
Eddie & Steen - I have yet to see anyone actually being serious about this on either side of the argument. However if any recruit makes a college choice, most likely the largest of their lives to that point, based on a random internet message board, do you think that's the kind of person that is mentally tough enough to handle being on a D1A football team?? You guys take this way too seriously.
At the end of the day, it's still a random internet message board. Where is all the profanity and vulgarity you're talking about? I saw a couple of childish names thrown around, sure, but nothing overly offensive. It's an incredibly bizaare situation that is still very sketchy involving a guy who supposedly was in love with OSU, and his father who criticizes Ohio State for "something not being right", yet would allow his son to play for a team that openly and knowingly employed a child rapist? I'd think most people, OSU fans or not, would understand some of the things being said on this board.
Justify it all you want, but 17 year old kids do care and it does effec them. The random internet message board is a representation of the fans, no way around it, we aren't here to learn about the Wisconsin swim team. You wanna know what fans are like, see what they are wiling to say in public, and yes, this is public. More than one staffer has indicated recruits being frustrated or even being turned off because of this kind of crap...
Did the Anzalones read the comments when Alex committed? This is Ohio State. Nobody gives the love like our fans, but it comes at a cost.
I don't wish him good luck, and I'm gllad we can move on from this creep. And that's not language I would ever use for someone who had merely decided not to go to Ohio State; he and his idiot Pops earned it with their trashing of the program.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
To be clear I couldnt care less what decision he and father make at this point. I also dont care about the situation as a whole anymore. How i feel about the anzalones and thier decison making is beside the point i'm trying to make.
Go back through and read some of the comments on the older boards written about anzalone and his dad and add those to today's comments. The negative and yes very offensive "Dr Dickhead" breed of comments made by the fast-twitch over-reacting 2% kind of commenters is what I take issue with.
My point is to do better than throw around language and adolescent vitriol that makes this site look like a middle school lunch table.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Exactly, Ahh
I really would have loved Anzalone on the Buckeyes, but it's time to move on. This isn't even about his dad anymore, he clearly doesn't want to be here. Just let it go, guys.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
"I want people to understand, I have no beef with Ohio State, at all," Sal Anzalone said. "My issue is not with Ohio State: It's a great institution, they have a phenomenal president, Urban Meyer is nothing but a class act to me.
"There's nothing wrong with Ohio State; it's a great institution. When I said there was something wrong with Ohio State, I was talking about the visit - there was something wrong with the visit, not with Ohio State."
"We can't implicate Ohio State for what happened (during that visit)," Sal Anzalone said. "That's wrong. That had nothing to do with the university itself. I don't hold them accountable; they're not responsible for what fans do; it's not their fault."
Boy. That guy sure is a jerk!
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Brewster, I know you're not so naive to just think that Anzalone would've decommited without the idiotic perv taking pictures with the athletes. How can he say "something isn't right" about the visit when he son had just commited not long before that?
Brewster - I'm not for demonizing Anzalone or his father, I would much rather we move on and get over this kid. But FWIW those quotes are from his retraction of his original comments made about OSU and the twitter trivia guru creepster. His original comments were not as kind.
Well that's sort of my point though Tenn. What is the difference what he said first if he redacted them with praise for OSU? We want to hang him high for his comments made out of justifiable confused anger but won't accept his apology? That's mad for the sake of being mad. Clearly some fans want to villify the guy and act like he took OSU to the woodshed. He found out his son was near a sex offender while at OSU. Did he over react? Probably. His redaction is plenty good for me but people want to play the jilted lover card and over react to his statements.
I'm not disputing that what Dr. Anz said was an over reaction. Whether he said "Something's not right" or whatever the hell some of us have gotten so hung up on. My point is that people commit\de commit. We were all doing high fives when guys flipped over to OSU but then fans get up in a twist when it goes the other way?
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Brewster,
Trust me, I'm with you. I only wanted to point out that the quotes were his redaction.
I should have specified-I did use the redaction comments intentionally because his apology goes above and beyond to compliment OSU while his original comments are, at worst, misconstrued.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I think he would have decommitted from Ohio State even without the sexual predator intervening on things. The situation with the sexual predator just made it easier for him to make that decision. It was a good fallback/scapegoat. He was already having 2nd thoughts.
I'm sorry to have steered up so much controversy over my "opinions." I will and have deleted the post. Lets look at this below shall we...if we have so much time to defend the dad (who I was talking about...not the "innocent" 17 yr old btw). I don't see how you can't say he was having second thoughts, so then he and his dad made up an "UNNECESSARY" story. Please read this and you'll see what I'm talking about...then he had several retractions that Brew pointed out so graciously. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2012/5/4/3000069/alex-anzalone-father-ohio-state-football-charles-waugh
Sorry it's SBnation too btw...but it reflects my points exactly...unnecessary I feel is an understatement!
Thanks and I'm sorry for being viewed as the asshole...I thought most if not all agreed about what Dr. A said at first about the situation (OSU doesn't need anymore than what they had last year no??). Which then caused half whit websites like Bleach Report to write BS articles. Pretty sure an 11W author wrote something about how they went over board and went so far as to put it on twitter. Oh well...sorry again...

Well, time will tell if he is any good or not. I thought he looked good but not great and I could care less where he goes. I would prefer a tougher kind of character to play for the Bucks. "Good" kids, e.g. Tebow, are held up as a standard but they are seldom good enough. I would go for the bad ass &%*^$&% most of the time.
I suspect Anzalone knew Meyer would continue to recruit the best and he might not even get to play in the end. He wants to go where he will be appreciated. But, like I said, if he is killing them if a couple of years I will eat my words. Only time will tell.
Why use Tebow as an example? He was ridiculous in college
Well yeah, that is what I mean. He is a huge dude and could run over people. But, his popularity far outstrips his ability. Now that he is no longer in college that is evident.
Sorry, I meant that the Tebow is rare, a "good" kid who is also the best player.
I'm not sure I understand what "good" means. Does it just mean you have a reputation as a good guy? because Anzalone doesn't have any reputation at all, like most kids that aren't even in college yet.
I'll be happy when this guy is committed else where, and is no longer a topic. He is getting FAR too much attention from the OSU fan base, because he was continuing to "claim" OSU still in it when in actuality we were eliminated probably when he de-committed. I don't care where he goes, I just want to stop reading about him until he starts making plays on Saturdays if that ever happens.
How did I know that Tebow would rock Croc's?
Schooey - So now you have inside knowledge on what Anzalone is thinking? What could have possibly given you the impression that he is afraid to compete with the best or that he is not tough in character? The fact is you have no basis at all to make such claims. Leave the KID alone...let him make his decision for HIM.
@CINCYOSU..... "Leave the KID alone...let him make his decision for HIM."
just like his dad did, huh Cincy?
seriously, man, who pisses in your Wheaties every morning? Every comment you make on here is some kind of anti-OSU remark, or Mr. Contrary, Mr. Devil's Advocate.
If somebody posted: "The sky is blue", you would probably respond: "How can you be so sure? It could be red or some other color. Quit name-calling!" ... blah blah blah.
I'm not saying there should be only pro-OSU fans on here, but if you're so miserable all of the time - don't spread your negativity around here with every post. Just a suggestion. Drink a Genny Light and relax, brobeans.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
I concur..The only conversations I want to have with a contrarian are in person..it's funny how their stance isn't as firm when not supported by the keyboard.
Bucks43201 has my support.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Thanks Bucks43201. Gets old seeing everyones OPINION get bashed in some way or another. In an opinion forum it seems much worse than someone mentioning religion in a few sentences. Not that I want to see religious conversation BTW just an example.
haha, thanks guys
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Bucks - First off, I am an extremely happy person but thanks for asking. Second, when am I ever anti OSU? I was born and raised on OSU football and am as big an OSU supporter you will find. Third, you can get tired of my "attacks" all you want...but who/what kinds of opinions do I go after???? I am not going to apologize for getting on someone who continually bashes on KIDS or for playing devils advocate when some of our fans only see through scarlet colored glasses. You may not agree with me, but others do.
I will however admit that my tone can come across the wrong way at times and is much more confrontational than I often intend...I have never really been good at conveying tone through writing so for that I do apologize.
Or, we could just, you know, not argue about trivial stuff like this. Anzalone doesn't want to come here. Anzalone's father doesn't want him to come here. There's really nothing more to discuss.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
eh - hope he enjoys San Antonio during the Alamo Bowl
Anyone else even midly creaped out how much discussion is going on in a public space about a high school junior that none of us have ever met?
In my opinion, college football recruiting has gotten to the point of scary. Let the professionals do their jobs and stay out of it. Honestly, I don't care what happens until its time to play on the football field, as thats all we really care about anyway. Until they step on the field, they are kids, just like any other kid, trying to choose a college and the right spot for their future. Relax. Ohio State has (almost) always had an interesting team to watch on fall Saturdays. There will always be enough guys who want to be a Buckeye and want to work hard to do it. Besides, I rarely hear good things about a fan knowing too much about a recruit. If we are better than the stalking creeps, we need to act like it.
Guys...Can we please stop talking about this?!?
Yeah, many of our fans are acting like scorned women (No offense intended ladies). Here are the facts according to me:
Talking about high school kids is no more creepy than showing up to a local high school football game to support the kids/community. I mean it is a product of popularity that is college football. The internet and multi media has only increased this. Excitedly anticipating what kid will play for the team you love is some of the motivation that brings kids to teams and certain sports to begin with. If there was no one there to appreciate the work you put into something would you still be as motivated to perform? As long as adults act reasonably and responsibly in regards to these kids (no need to contact) there shouldn't be an issue.
As far as Anzalone is concerned we should stop acting horribly and wishing ill and bad things on this kid. I never defended TP being a kid and getting passes but Anzalone is 16. A little bit of a difference there. Ultimately it is his choice or should be his choice where he goes to school. I think a lot of our fans are bitter over the way it all went down, as well they should but it has been long enough and its time to move on. I don't know many that like the way his father handled the situation but the fact (and I know its a fact because I am a parent) is that his ass should have been there with his 16 year old kid through this entire thing. The way his father handled the entire thing is completely wrong in my opinion. I never once heard or read about him blaming himself first. You would think a professional would show a little more accountability.
In closing, I am only curious about where he ends up but I am done promoting the legend that is Anzalone. Just my take fellas.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
