Ladies and Gentleman, we need to address a serious issue I cam across yesterday regarding one of our users. Apparently in the interview with Jeb Blazevich his cell phone # ran in the beginning of the highlight reel. This happens often with recruits as they do this for college coaches, etc, but yesterday one of the readers on this site took the number and proceeded to text message Blazevich.
Jeb texted me asking we take down the video in the meantime while he edits it, but obviously this is a problem. I would hope after the whole Charles Waugh thing that something of this nature would not happen, especially from a reader on this site. I understand we can't control everything and this is something obviously that was an oversight on Jeb's part, but I was troubled that someone got a 15/16 year old recruit's number from this site and proceeded to send him messages.
This policy is not something written in place on the site, nor do I think it needs to be addressed further than this. Please use your heads when it comes to recruiting and things of this nature, as what happened yesterday is unacceptable.
Thanks!

JFC......
guys lets not cost ourselves recruits.... we are better than this i hope
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
My sentiments exactly. Disgusting
I am speechless. You're one disturbed s.o.b. whoever you are. I'm really getting sick of the knuckle-dragging 10%.
"You have to slay the selfish beast inside of you and be your brother's keeper" - Chris Spielman, on being a great teammate
Idiots.
I wouldn't say that's a serious issue with this site, that's more on the recruit for putting his phone number out for all to see. Just IMO. Not saying it's okay for anyone to text them, but it's his fault for having it put on his tape. The coaches' number is the only number that should ever be on a tape.
Urbz...the title was more to get people to read....BUT it is an issue with the site's readers....that is unacceptable for someone to take a #, even if it was on a highlight video for all to see, and text message that recruit....especially after what we saw with Anzalone
I apologize to everyone. I did not intend for this to happen. Next time, I'll put that fella that did this in a choke hold that he doesn't wake up from.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
I hope whoever did this was using Booster Mobile when they texted said recruit. Also, I hope they have a really miserable weekend.
Taquitos.
just unreal.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I'm not saying it's okay, I'm just saying that it's not wise for a sought after kid to put his number on a YouTube video. Not smart. It could have been easily prevented if whoever had made the video thought things through completely. The likelyhood of that happening on MGoBlog or any other traveled site is pretty damn high, which is why I don't think it's 11W's fault. There are idiots everywhere, and when given access to information...
Of course not 11W or the community fault...in fact we get visitors from all over and it could have been a Miami (FL), Clemson, UNC, Duke, etc etc fan...nobody knows, I just want to make sure we're all on the same page that what happened is NOT ok
Wow creepy --- what is with people these days
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
It was probably a mistake for him to have put his number on the video however that does not excuse in any way, any one from this site using that number to contact him for any reason what so ever. period. end of story.
Banhammer needs laid down.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
jesus.... this is messed up. hope this doesnt freak him out too much
I just can't fathom why people would want to contact 16-17 year old kids....leave them the #@&! alone....
I don't care how apparent a recruit's phone number is on their highlight video, none of us non-recruiting experts should ever actually call, text, or contact any recruit. Ugh...
just...way too much. That's why i view recruiting as a double-edged sword. Yes it is fantastic to get this information so readily available to us and to keep up to date, but people get way too into it and way beyond involved then they should be.
Some people just lack the common sense and it
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
Man, tweeting a kid is one thing, and I'm not an advocate of that, but texting them? C'mon guys. I don't care if the kid's cell phone was on the video or not.
I didn't see the video or anything, but did he say whoever it was came from the 11W site? If it was a youtube vid it could have been anyone, but I'm assuming since this was posted as a site issue that it was traced back to a user here. Still, wtf...I'm sure some rando texting him will help the cause.
Come on people......THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!!!!!
Cost OURselves recruits? That's part of the problem dudes. The culture around big programs like this-fans put themselves in places they don't belong.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
What a moron.
I really hope that this person was hitting the sauce pretty hard and had impaired judgement at the time.
I saw the number and thought it was weird, but figured he set up an alternate phone number specifically for recruiting and didn't mind having it out there. Am I right to assume that this video was available publicly on youtube and elsewhere prior to appearing on 11W?
I always see numbers on vids, and hope that its just the coaches number, not the kids number, but that is messed up to text a recruit. Seriously, you have no bearing on the program, you are a fan, thats just messed up..... Hope this kid just looks past this....
VERY LAME leave these damn kids alone smh.
Hardly home but always reppin
I wouldn't say it's incredibly common for kids to put their number on videos. Typically it's the coach's. I made a highlight tape for my girlfriend's sister (high school soccer) and all of the recruiting video sites recommend coach's info, not the player's.
People are idiots. Recruiting used to be pretty cool a few years ago when you jumped on a website to see if they were medium or hot about Ohio State and you kind of browsed the Rivals 100 and took a little pride in seeing Ohio State on that list as committed. Nowadays it's glorified stalking and obsession. Analyzing tweets and FB messages. Trying to decipher the true meaning of every comment a kid makes. The idea that because a kid waits til signing day and enjoys playing the recruiting cycle out that somehow he is trouble and a prima donna that we don't want. So much about recruiting is just stupid these days. It used to be something fun to fill time between the end of the bowl game and the openning day of the season. Now it's this weird cult following that is really getting creepy.
You liked recruiting before it was cool? Such a hipster
The way I see it, it really doesn't matter how common it is for his number to be out there or if he should be the one to blame or not. Most of us on this site are grown adults, which means that there's a great likelihood that some 30+ year old dude texted the kid. Quite honestly if some 30 year old dude texted my kid I would be extremely pissed. I would deal with my son for putting his number out there, but I'd still be pissed and creeped out that some random dude from a blog texted my son.
There should be a filter that tells somone you know it's marginally ok to Tweet the kids but a text message to a 15 or 16 year old kid is just way way over the line.
@ Buck-I8: I liked AJ Hawk better when he wasn't even a three-star recruit.
Taquitos.
hahaha. Anyway, everyone is saying the exact same things over and over so.. this thread is no longer important
Actually, I liked recruiting when it was cool. Now it's a bunch of guys judging a kids character because of tweets, grown men rationalizing that we didn't want him anyway when a kid picks a different school, and cussing them out or insulting them publicly when they decide to go somewhere else. Not to mention the whole stalking underaged boys via social media. It's become a weird, creepy, and in some cases pathetic.
I enjoy the work that people like Alex do. That kind of information and content used to only be reserved for premium sites and the likes of Rivals or Scout. I have no issue with that. I enjoy that kind of recruiting stuff. It's the cult following and obsession that turns a seemingly normal grown man into some sort of internet equivalent to the creepy guy with a van that has no windows that drives around with a puppy and candy and talks to kids on the street.
@BT:
Then don't follow it anymore. Simple solution if you really think that.
Yeah, you're right. Sexual predators = Recruiting Diehards. How did i never see it before? All hail btalbert
#1) This is a free site and I'm sure 11W doesn't do background investigations on every member.
#2) There are all kinds of sicko's out there these days
#3) Could have been anyone that did this not just a tOSU fan.
#4) This athlete will probably think twice in the future about putting personal information out in social media.
5) Any site the publishes these video's should think about editing this information out or just not posting it.
#6) Social media has become huge and there is or will be some sort of standards they have to go by for what information they are posting to the public.
#7) I'm also sure if whoever this person is wanted his cell # he could have found it without the video.
All this being said website, members, and visitors have a responsibility to act as normal human beings. If they can't follow the rules then give them that most hated ban for life from the site.
yes brewster i actually coach bball for the branch of ohio state so yea. OUR RECRUITS. I dont know what you have against me but im getting to the point where I would like to settle it face to face.
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Internet tough guy...chillax. You're just opening yourself up to be mocked.
Also based on your "How does Gene Smith have still have a job" thread, I would say that you probably shouldn't be mocking your boss on an OSU forum (if you work there like you say). IMO, just observations.
I don't have anything against anyone on this site. I enjoy discussing all things Ohio State with all manner of Ohio State fans. If you feel like I attack you personally, that's really not my problem but I am sorry you feel that way. Just because I respond to a user's comments more than others doesn't mean I have anything against them it just means I disagree with things they say.
As for the basketball thing, that's cool man but you are as much a part of OSU football as I am. And by that of course, I mean you are a fan and nothing more. The whole "We" "Us" "Our" thing irks me. That's not a dig at you, that's a dig at anyone who inserts themselves into a program and pretends to be more than something they are.
Friends?
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I really don't follow recruiting anymore, just when I see stuff like this going on it ticks me off because it's so stupid.
Buck i, I never said all recruitind diehards are that way, but recruiting has reached pretty insane and creepy levels. It's more than just a few fans now who are hanging on every tweet a kid makes, are tweeting the kids and begging for retweets. It's also more than just a couple who give a guy shit because he diidn't pick their school. More than 1 or 2 guys think they can judge a kid's character by a tweet.
Clearly, you are right though, I'll use your logic and say clearly since not all recruiting diehards don't cross the line, there is nothing wrong at all. Recruiting is awesome and so is texting and tweeting minors.
Sigh. You guys all take things too seriously and personally. That's is the real "Serious Issue on the Site".
Something we can all giggle at
I've actually made some highlight tapes for some high school D1 players and I always ask what kind of contact info they want to put on their tape. Most don't want their phone # on the tape because of krank calls and inappropriate texts. A lot of times the coaches will put their # on the tape and rely any important info to the recruit.
Sir Rick...so you "...coach bball for the branch of ohio state..." What does that mean? What branch? I see that you comment on here fairly regularly, and I am curious how many other Ohio State coaches...at any branch...have either the time, or the inclination to comment on a fan blog. And, how many said coaches would have a tag line "bielemma is a sissy girl"? (Which, by the way, I like!) Please enlighten.

Say it with me now:
Don't. Contact. Recruits. Ever.
Don't call them.
Don't text them.
Don't tweet them.
Don't facebook them.
Don't morse code them.
Don't send smoke signals to them.
Just don't.
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Its a real simple rule that applies to LIFE, not just football:
Don't text, tweet, or call kids if you're not their parent or relative.
the offseason is the f'ing worst
maybe if jeb would have given you the number that the text came from then we could handle the problem
"Give me Liberty, or Give me Death!"
Do you guys think handwritten letters on official 'OSU Fan' stationary are an appropriate form of communication with recruits?
Finding the time isnt hard. Its a branch school that pays 4k not even my day job... as far as how many other coaches comment on here i cant say.
@brewsters felt like you were digging with the simon draft stock then attacked the we comment.... no biggie i overreacted friends indeed
@urbzrenewal if you truly think im the standard "internet tough guy" keep instigating, so long as I know what gym you train at
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Scorns those who call him internet tough guy, then IS internet tough guy in the same sentence. Im confused
This is not the first time in recent history. We OSU fans need to be careful:

I think you got it wrong when you said......"This is not the first time in recent history. We OSU fans need to be careful"
Don't put WE into this....not everyone is "doing it" so to speak.
You dont need a account to watch the video on here. Coulda been anyone. Needless to say, dont contact recruits!
After reading through a lot of these comments I have come to the realization that some of you need to take a communications class or just make an honest attempt to become more civil. Some of your comments are very unnecessary. You can disagree with someone without sounding like a smart ass or attempting to get a laugh at another's expense. To do that behind the keyboard instead of in person is just as silly as "Being an internet tough guy." There is a lot of needless antagonizing and back handed remarks here lately. I don't remember our community being this bad 2-3 years ago. No one ever talks shit to me in person but I encounter it here often. I could stop visiting the comments section but I kind of felt like this was an extended, somewhat functional family (Seeing as how I am removed from Ohio at this time), where we could all share our thoughts and concerns on Ohio State. Since the scandal, that has been missing. Let us all consider this and try to shape up. US includes me....
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Agreed with Pharmbuck! Wtf is wrong with people. Take a step back.

I like this site. Alot of great people on here but its a little crazy to get on here and read grown men trying to settle things "face to face". I like to think that this site and the posters on here are above the garbage that I read on ESPN boards but the stuff on here looks alot like ESPN boards. No need for digging into people and trying to start fights why cant we as fans of tOSU get on here and just talk sports like civilized people?
