Bucknuts article reports that Chris Fields quit the team after practice? No confirmation from the site or anyone else, just wondering if anyone else heard the same thing from another source.
PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE

Alex just tweeted, saying that his source confirmed the rumor. Wonder what caused this?
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Best of luck Chris.
Thats unfortunate...he was one of our better WRs and we really can't afford to lose any
"Love my State, hate the football"
I have a feeling that the kind of guy who just up and quits on his team isn't the kind of guy who will put in the work to be the playmaker role that Urban needs filled.
Also plus one in the scholarship department, to look at the bright side
I have very mixed emotions about this. Of course I want to know why and wish him the best. On the other hand I also agree with BUCK-I-8 in that you don't want a quitter on your team.
well...that's too bad. I wish him the best.
But, to be blunt - he only had 11 catches in the couple years he's been here. Supposedly ran a 4.43 coming out of high school...I think he could have contributed more...but, I agree with "Buck-I.8" --- the bright side is it opens up another scholly. And, one of the true freshman WR (Thomas, Southward, Epitopolous) will get a better shot at some early PT, which is good in the long run.

Chris Fields just tweeted soemthing along the lines of, "Can't believe everything you hear", so lets wait and see if this is real or not.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
He just tweeted "Can't believe everything you hear" for whatever that's worth.
Edit: Good timing BJ, HaHa
his Twitter is pretty funny, the pics too

Chris Fields is one of our better WR's? hahahahaha
That's not saying much.
@blockoh- case in point, thats not saying much but we kind of need to look at the guys who at least showed a glimpse of being a leader at the postion...not sure what the "hahaha" stuff was about
"Love my State, hate the football"
Apparently, Chris has said he has not quit the team, and Alex says he has a week to come back. As for him being one of our better receivers, he did start on the 1st team this Spring, but it appears that Philly Brown has beaten him out for 1st team recently.
Evan Spencer tweeted his conversation with Chris Fields. He said "They said I quit lol obviously I didn't"
Take it for what it's worth.
Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise. It could give one of our frosh receivers (Thomas, Southward, Epitropoulos) the chance they need to make an impression during practice. Esp Thomas since he's already in spring practice.
Urban is putting a great deal of pressure on these guys to perform and Urban tells it like it is. I expect some to break under the pressure. So there may be a weeding out process going on now. I hope Chris sees this as a challenge and gets to the next level. This is only an opinion as I have no inside source.
Just tweeted by Chris Fields :"@Cfields_8Zero: I did NOT quit and will never quit on buckeye nation so let's put these rumors to rest.. I will always be a buckeye!! #GoBucks #80"
I think his words should be worth something. Pretty sure he's not going anywhere.
Dang. Too bad. We could've taken another WR this class.
I'm very happy to hear he is still on the team. I think he can make a difference this year. We are very thin at WR and under the new regime, he can make huge strides.
As long as he's still a Buckeye let's not give up on him for an unidentified recruit.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Now I am not trying to be all hoity toity, but I think that wishing a kid who is going into his third year of being a Buckeye and giving it his all, would quit to trade him in for a high schooler is a little bit fucked up. Fields puts his body on the line so we can cheer for Ohio State and I think that we owe all of those kids our support. I don't care if he is the best player on the team or the worst (which I think Fields is far from), he is a Buckeye and he has my best wishes and I hope that he stays.
Who are you people hoping he is gone? I mean that's worse than talking bad about a current player
These type of things seem to happen often when a new staff takes over regardless of location/university. Seems as though players tend to test the boundaries set forth by the new staff to get a feel for things. Generally I think it's a good thing as it sets an example for what is to be expected from players and the response for actions, regardless of what it was. No real harm, no real foul. Move along and everyone can learn from it.
Yeah still gathering facts, but from what I can gather, Fields going through some personal things, something happen that caused him to "go off a bit" and "quit"....he was given a week to come back to team and I believe he cooled down thought with a clear head, thus his tweets that he didn't quit...in the end will make him stronger, but I'm sur he'll be in the dog house right now
His cousin and my younger brothers bestfriend was murdered this past saturday here in columbus on myrtle ave. might have something to do with it fwiw.
Hardly home but always reppin
That would definitely do it....hopefully Chris pulls it together and if that's the case and that's what caused him to go "off" I hope Urban at least gets it, and from the sounds of him "giving him a week to cool off and think things through" sounds like he definitely does.
Thats gotta be tough for him. Hope he ends up ok and plays with a chip on his shoulder for his cousin.
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
I'm pretty sure no one is "hoping he's gone". Maybe we should read the posts a little more thoroughly.
That's tragic about his family though, I'm sure he's making the choice that's right for himself at this point, and it wn't be easy
Thanks Blaze, that would probably be the "personal stuff" he is going through...hope he comes back better than ever
no problem
Hardly home but always reppin
Just shows what big time college football is like in the twitter era. No privacy for any of these kids even in their personal lives. If everyone in the city found out everytime we snapped at a supervisor at work, life would kind of suck.
Yeah, it would suck to get a free education and play football for the greatest university in the country. Spare me.
If the family issues are true, then I honestly feel bad for him. However, in terms of football, I couldn't care less either way if he's a Buckeye or not, he's not going to make an impact on this team this year or next. I would gladly enjoy being wrong about it, but the only reason to feel sympathic towards this situation at all would be if there was a death/family problems.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
^^^ I hope you don't talk that way about all Buckeyes despite their contibution on the field....sheeez. Stay classy
Chris is a Buckeye !!
Yeah totally. It's "free". An academic scholarship is. An athletic scholarship definitely isn't. I had a full academic ride. Life was easy. I was just a normal student. No mandatory anything to worry about except a gpa at the end of the semester. You don't like your major, you can switch to anything you want. You decide you don't like playing football anymore, you're stuck unless you want to go back home. The only thing free about major college sports is the labor cost of the athletes.
Looks like OurHonorDefend09 is doing a pretty bang-up job of keeping everything in order w/r/t thier 'out-of-touch-with-reality scholarship'.
Taquitos.
Sidetrack, but need to say it- Blazethebuckeye, I am sorry for your little brother's pain and loss. Losing a best friend, especially to death, is terrible. I also hope that Chris can overcome his loss and come back to the team if that is what is best for him.
Let's hope Chris is able to refocus himself and contribute on the field.
I'm rooting for him to be the productive receiver he should be.
Thanks southbymidwest funeral is Monday young people funerals are the worst I always remember how proud was when fields commited it would be a shame for him to quit
Hardly home but always reppin
So did you get a stipend statutory?
Actually yes. $2k a semester. Sports scholarships blow comparatively.
