Kevin McGuff is proving that he was a great hire with the Buckeyes picking up three very good commitments for their 2014 class today. Kelsey and Chelsea Mitchell of Cincinnati Princeton High School decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Buckeyes. Kelsey, an all-around point guard, is rated as the fourth overall prospect according to Hoopgurlz. Chelsea, who is more knwon for her defense, is a three-star according to most services. Kelsey and Chelsea are the daughters of assistant coach Mark Mitchell, formerly the head coach of Cincinnati Winton Woods boys team.
Kevin McGuff also added a commitment from five-star post Alexa Hart of Columbus Africentric High School. Hart is the 16th overall prospect according to Hoopgurlz. She played AAU ball with the Mitchell's and all three will now try to recruit their AAU teammates to Columbus.
This is a great start to an important class for McGuff. I'm no expert on WBB, but I've previously read that this class is expected to be large in size, potentially 7 recruits. (This matches up with their roster)
Ohio State is in on many of the top players from Ohio including Kathryn Westbeld of Fairmont High School. She is the 31st overall prospect and is down to Ohio State, UConn, Duke, and Notre Dame. Her high school teammate, Makayla Waterman is the 30th overall prospect. She is considering Ohio State, but information is tough to find. Westbeld and Waterman both played with the Mitchells and Hart on the AAU circuit.
