Eleven Warriors is hiring a second beat writer. Is that writer you?

Two years ago, we asked for your help hiring a full-time beat writer for the site. You graciously stepped up, made it happen and Kyle's outstanding work has been a big part of why we're here today, still growing, and looking to add a second writer to the Ohio State beat.

Is that writer you?

In short, we're looking for someone to own the Ohio State basketball beat, while contributing to coverage of other sports, including football. That someone should be whip-smart, have a good nose for news and value the payoff of hard work. They should be comfortable shaping the Ohio State athletics conversation and get the web.

Duties

– Provide reporting, opinion and analysis of the Ohio State men's basketball team, along with other school programs
– Attend press conferences, media sessions, open practices and other athletics events
– Attend home and away games, providing extensive game coverage
– Attend select events and high school games featuring Ohio State targets
– Capture, curate and publish video, audio and photos
– Drive conversations on the site, Twitter and other channels
– Make media appearances, including the Eleven Dubcast, television and radio

Requirements

– Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or a related field
– Two or more years of web journalism experience
– Love of sport and deep knowledge of the college athletics landscape

Perks

– Writing for a huge audience and a role in shaping the Ohio State athletics conversation
– Flexible hours
– Paid vacation
– Bonus program that rewards great writing, important interviews and breaking news

Interested? Send résumé and a few of your best writing samples to [email protected].

You guys are pulling out all the stops. The fact that this website is still free and yet you're looking to hire a second full-time employee is amazing. It's been cool to see you guys grow over time and undoubtably is the first site I go to on my lunch break and after work.

Now if I could just get into the Premium Club.

Class of 2016. Go Bucks!

What is this 'basketball' of which you speak?

The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

It is this highly successful, national powerhouse program that Coach Thad Matta has put together. It involves several McDonald's All-Americans, NCAA All-Americans, NBA draft picks and even a National Player of the Year. It is a program that has transformed the University from a football school into a football AND basketball school. The team is expected to compete for national titles every year. It's kind of a big deal.

Yes, OSU is a multi-sport powerhouse: basketball, baseball, softball, swimming and diving, track & field, golf, tennis, hockey, volleyball, fencing and football. And it has been a multi-sport power since the 1940's. Yet some OSU fans hurt the other sports with their disparaging remarks and actions; affecting recruiting, including football recruiting. (Just ask Fred Taylor). But some folks are just unaware, or they see the world through heavy filters...and are 50 or more years behind the times.

Were you aware, for example that for about 15 years or so, the US Olympic Swimming and Diving coaches were predominantly OSU coaches? See also synchronized swimming. Only 11% of Ohio State's national championships are in football. Isn't it about time for these fans to get in the game?

Our honor defend, we will fight to the end !

If you can't win your conference, just quietly accept your non-playoff bowl game.

I have two or more years of utterly stupid posts... does that count as the web journalism experience?

Andy don't you have a degree in Journalism or aren't you in writing of some kind?

Yeppers. Earned my degree in agricultural communications at OSU (the news writing and editing courses are taught via the j-comm school), and work for the largest agricultural media company in North America, if not the world. It's a pretty great gig, but I get wistful every time Jason throws out the "help wanted" sign at 11W HQ...

Cool gig nonetheless - would you dive in if it was part-time work?

Being a beat reporter would be very tough with my work/travel schedule, part-time or not. One of these days I'd love to be an Ohio State football columnist, and more or less write editorial, or very specific articles about items that interest me (conference expansion, media bias, the economics of the sport, etc. etc. etc.). That's why I blog here from time to time - I love college football, but I'm not an Xs and Os guy and I missed the "beat reporter" career path many, many moons ago. But the site provides an occasional outlet for both my writing and my passion for the sport. Best of both worlds, even if it doesn't pay :)

One of these days we'll just have to redeem helmet stickers at the 'Lounge, AV.

I'm close to that box of Cracker Jack I've been saving up for...

Pretty much the only reason I would have gone into journalism would be to do something like this.  Alas, I chose a completely different field.

Columbus to Pasadena: 35 hours.  We're on a road trip through the desert looking for strippers and cocaine... and Rose Bowl wins!

I'm excited as hell to get some more in depth Basketball coverage. This site is going  places and it won't be long before the rocket leaves the launching pad. I'll be here for it in one form or another and can't wait to experience the ride.

Mark my words..I don't need acceptance. I'm catching interceptions on you innocent pedestrians.

I'm a senior comm student, and I have a bit of a journalism background, and some nice writing samples, with photography, design and marketing experience as well. Not sure that I have the qualifications you want for this position, but is there anything I could do for 11W? I've been a huge fan for a while and I think it would be a great experience.

When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.

Getting paid to attend sporting events and talk about it sounds like the dream job for some lucky 11W journalism major / sports fan. Good luck, applicants! <3
