Have a good Wednesday.
“BE WHERE YOUR FEET ARE.” Jim Tressel offered Marcus Freeman the best advice he’s ever received.
In an appearance on Next Up with Adam Breneman, Freeman discussed what he’s learned as Notre Dame’s head football coach, how the Irish will bounce back from their national championship loss to the Buckeyes and more.
Part of the “and more” includes the wisdom Tressel imparted to him after Freeman left his role as a graduate assistant at Ohio State to become the linebackers coach at Kent State.
“Be where your feet are,” Freeman said, reflecting on the advice Tressel shared with him before he departed Columbus. “It probably meant something different when he told me as I was getting ready to leave Ohio State to go to Kent State than it does right now. To me, I use that to remember, like, focus on what’s in front of you. Don’t waste time daydreaming about an uncertain future or things that don’t matter. Use your energy on the things that matter.”
That’s not coaching or football advice.
That’s life advice.
And it’s darn good.
NOLAN BAUDO, UNSUNG HERO. There are several unsung heroes on Ohio State’s roster. One of them is Nolan Baudo.
In an appearance on the Juck on Bucks College Football Show, Bryson Rodgers named a Buckeye he believes deserves more recognition. His answer was the walk-on wide receiver from Chicago.
A great example of the culture at Ohio State under Ryan Day from Bryson Rodgers. This is awesome. @IBryson13 pic.twitter.com/VfEQUH06It

“Nolan Baudo, he’s a walk-on,” Rodgers said. “He’s a glue guy to our room. Guys like that, people don’t understand how much of an impact they truly are. Like, they might think, ‘Well, he’s a walk-on. He’s just taking up space. We can recruit better guys.’ Well, nah. We got guys like that who really glue our rooms together — that make us even more closer and make us play even more harder for each other. Shout out to my guy Nolan Baudo, for sure.
“He’s definitely a glue piece to our whole team. Everybody loves him. Everybody loves his energy, his passion, and even though he doesn’t really impact as much as us on the field as a player, he has an incredible impact in the locker room. When we’re out together, doing stuff, he just has a certain energy to him that’s contagious and everybody loves and makes our team better.”
You all know I love it when walk-ons receive praise, so I appreciate Rodgers for sharing some of it for Baudo!
“HOLY COW WOULD YOU LOOK AT THIS…” After Jon Gruden hosted Will Howard for his QB Class, Ohio State sent Gruden a care package full of items. He showed off each of them in a six-minute video on X, and in those six minutes, Gruden established himself as a force to be reckoned with in an Ohio State “Remember Him?” Game.
Holy cow would you look at this... THE National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes sent us a box!!!!

There are so many great players to name and so much history that I could've spent an hour opening this thing.
Thank you Coach Day and @OhioStateFB for everything, I love it! pic.twitter.com/YwSmZsMUEm
While unrelated to Ohio State, I have to share this video of a speech Gruden delivered to Luke Fickell’s team at Wisconsin last week. It had me ready to go to battle for him.

“I’m into nightmares” is one of the hardest lines I’ve ever heard.
Incredible stuff.
OLYMPIC VILLAGE. First pitch swinging… and first pitch crushing!
The Ohio State softball team has been crushing the ball under first-year head coach Kirin Kumar. The Buckeyes lead the nation in home runs (105), slugging percentage (.719) and runs (379) while also leading the Big Ten in RBIs (359) and walks (211).

Ohio State’s offensive success is no surprise considering Kumar’s reputation before arriving in Columbus. Kumar coached Miami (Ohio) to immense success from 2021-24, accumulating a 174-56-1 record with a 107-16 mark in the Mid-American Conference. During her final season in Oxford, the Redhawks smashed 160 home runs, the second-most in a single season in NCAA history.
Making the most of their red-hot bats, the Buckeyes are 33-10-1 this season. Kumar has Ohio State competing with Oregon, UCLA, Nebraska, Michigan and Northwestern for a Big Ten title, fulfilling an expectation she set forth in her introductory press conference.
“I expect to win,” Kumar said. “I like to win. I don’t like to lose.”
Ohio State will look to keep the good times rollin’ this week, traveling to Dayton on Wednesday before hosting Michigan in a three-game series at Buckeye Field this weekend.
