Skull Session: Dawand Jones Has a Vendetta With Purdue, It Looks Like Steele Chambers is a Starter Now, and Tony Alford Made a Vintage Blunder

Hey, basketball is back again today. That's fun, right?

Buckeyes tip-off against Niagra at 7 p.m. tonight. As much as I enjoy Zed Key buzzer-beaters, let's make this one decidedly less interesting than the season-opener. Cool?

Word of the Day: Regale.

“AND I JUST TOOK THAT PERSONALLY.” Noted former basketball player Dawand Jones is channeling his inner Michael Jordan this week.

Turns out, Purdue elected not to offer a scholarship to the 6-foot-8, absurdly athletic behemoth that grew up 30 minutes from their campus, even once schools like Ohio State and Mississippi State did.

So Dawand wants to do to them what any good giant does – grind their bones into dust.

"I gotta go there and we're gonna smash them. They offered me a walk-on. And so, I just took that personally. And I've just been putting that into this week. Since I've seen the game on our schedule, it's been like a major topic for me, for sure."

(Did it hurt your feelings?)

"A little bit, it did. Just knowing I'm a home-state kid and none of my schools offered a little bit into my recruitment. But I just took it as an L and put it back into my grind.

"They said I could walk onto their football team."

"It plays in my mind at times no matter if it's this week or last week or the week before. That's in the back of my head – that's what they did, that's what they decided to do. I just gotta keep working and work as hard as I can.

I can't tell you how many times I've read something similar about some Ohio kid who got overlooked by Ohio State and wants to prove them wrong on the field, and I gotta say, it's refreshing to be on the other end of this story.

Go get them, Dawand.

STEELE THE STARTER? Steele Chambers was unfortunately barred from playing in the first half of this week's game, but it sure seems like he was about to be in Ohio State's starting lineup.

I cannot stress enough how wild it was that he was playing running back less than three months ago and now he's arguably the best linebacker on the No. 4 team in the country.

To be fair, he should have rolled with linebacker all along with a name like that, but you live and learn, I guess.

“DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO.” You know it and you've seen it – dude strolling untouched into the end zone drops or spikes the ball prematurely before crossing the plane, not only taking a touchdown off the board but giving the opponent the ball.

You'd be correct in assuming Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford would absolutely lose his damn mind if one of his players ever did that in a game. But what he probably doesn't want you to know is that he's actually one of the pioneers of that blunder.

To be fair, I'd much rather TreVeyon Henderson learn from his decades-old mistake than create his own in the fourth quarter of a must-win game against a ranked opponent.

So uh... Thank you, Tony!
