Big Ten Hockey has announced its weekly list of top performers. For the third straight week it includes a Buckeye goalie. Senior netminder Sean Romeo takes Third Star of the Week honors. It is the seventh weekly conference award of Romeo’s career and his second this season.

Tommy Nappier, So. G No. 6 B1G Third Star of the Week
Sean Romeo, Sr. G No. 7 B1G Third Star of the Week

Romeo shut out Wisconsin last Friday, helping Ohio State to a series sweep of the Badgers. The Cary, North Carolina native stopped 32 shots in the win. Nearly half of them (12) came on the penalty kill. It was the third straight shutout for Romeo who has not allowed a goal since Oct. 26. The phrase “on fire” is no longer sufficient to describe him.

The whitewash also extended a program-record shutout streak for the Bucks’ netminding duo. Romeo and Tommy Nappier combined over the last two-plus weeks for 231:42 consecutive minutes of shutout hockey. They bested a 211:58 mark set in 2011 by Brady Hjelle and Cal Heeter.

Penn State sophomore Evan Barratt and Michigan junior Jake Slaker were named the Big Ten’s First and Second Stars of the Week. Barratt had four goals and an assist against Michigan, including a hat trick in PSU’s 7-6 win last Saturday. Slaker posted two goals and two assists including the game-winning tally in the Wolverines’ comeback win last Friday.

You can see two of these three stars in action at the Schott this week. Romeo and No. 5 Ohio State host Barratt and No. 6 Penn State. Games are scheduled for Friday at 5pm ET and Saturday at 8pm ET.
