Friday’s contest between No. 5 Ohio State and Bemidji State seemed to be shaping up as a showdown between top 10 goaltenders Kassidy Sauve and Erin Deters. The netminders were in the spotlight. First, though, the scorers took center stage.

Scoring by Period 1 2 3 OT Final SO
No. 5 Ohio State 1 2 0 0 3 0
Bemidji State 2 1 0 0 3 1

The Bucks doubled the Beavers in shots in the opening period, 16-8. Tatum Skaggs got OSU on the board first with her eighth goal of the season. The Scarlet and Gray continued to pressure Bemidji. But the Beavers not only fended off the Buckeye attacks, they turned the next two back up the ice and put a pair of pucks behind Sauve. BSU led 2-1 at the break.

Buckeye Goal Scorers (Assists) Pd Time
Tatum Skaggs (Charly Dahlquist, Jacyn Reeves) 1 9:37
Liz Schepers (Lauren Boyle) 2 3:05
Julianna Iafallo (Maddy Field, Emma Maltais) 2 11:46

Ohio State kept at Bemidji goalie Erin Deters. Early in the second period Buckeye forward Liz Schepers found the back of the net, tying the game at 2-2. The goal was the freshman’s first collegiate tally. Haley Mack edged the Beavers ahead again with a shorthanded marker. Julianna Iafallo drew the Bucks level again. The teams headed to the third period tied, 3-3.

The Bucks and Beavers battled through the third period. OSU turned up the gas over the final ten minutes and heavily out-chanced BSU. Over the last half of the frame the Buckeyes attempted 22 shots to the Beavers’ two. Only sharp play from Deters and some determined Bemidji shot blockers preserved the 3-3 score.

The deadlock continued through the overtime session. The game ended in a tie. Then the teams squared off to determine the fate of the extra conference point. Sauve and Deters denied shooter after shooter. Finally, in the sixth round, Lydia Passolt struck for the Beavers. At the other end of the ice Deters stopped Maddy Field to secure the bonus point for BSU.

Ohio State and Bemidji State meet again tomorrow afternoon. The game begins at 4pm ET. Live audio and video streams are available through Bemidji's website.
