Ohio State's defense prevails as Team Gray beats Team Scarlet 35-26 in the spring game.
Ohio State’s defense overcame a fast start by the offense to earn a win in the spring game.
The biggest standouts of Ohio State’s 2026 spring game were redshirt freshman quarterback Tavien St. Clair and freshman wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., who connected on a pair of deep balls in the first quarter, including a 40-yard touchdown. A short day of work for Julian Sayin was highlighted by a 4-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening drive, leading the way to a 17-point first quarter for the offense that also included a 45-yard field goal by Connor Hawkins.
The Gray defense won the day overall, however, preventing the Scarlet offense from scoring any points for the entire second and third quarters. The offense scored multiple times in the fourth quarter on a 42-yard Hawkins field goal and a 61-yard touchdown run by Luke Fahey, but the defense held on for a 35-26 win in Saturday’s spring-ending scrimmage in Ohio Stadium.

While he may have been caught at the 1-yard line by Christian Alliegro in a real game where quarterbacks can be tackled, it was nevertheless a nice display of his running ability that Ryan Day has said needs to be an X-factor for the Buckeyes this season.
