NFL Combine Takeaways

Updates

Styles is Combine’s Second-Fastest Man

Lorenzo Styles Jr.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. officially finished as the NFL Scouting Combine’s second-fastest man.

His 4.27-second 40-yard dash was topped by only one other combine participant: Mississippi State wide receiver Brenen Thompson, who ran a 4.26-second 40 on Saturday.

Tate Runs 4.53 40

Carnell Tate ran the 40-yard dash in an official time of 4.53 seconds. While Tate appeared to stumble on his first attempt, he ran the same speed on his second attempt, clocking unofficial times of 4.54 seconds on both before receiving a .01-second improvement on his official time.

Tate’s 40 concluded on-field work for Ohio State’s contingent of draft prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine, as he is not participating in any other drills at the combine and was the final Buckeye to work out at the combine this year.

Hankton Coached LSU Receivers Hard On Field, Cared for Them Off Field

Cortez Hankton and Zavion Thomas

Cortez Hankton’s former LSU receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine said Ohio State’s new receivers coach is hard on his players on the field but always supports them off the field.

Donaldson Will Only Do Position Drills

CJ Donaldson will only do position drills at the NFL Scouting Combine, choosing to save his measurable drill testing for Ohio State’s March 25 pro day, he told reporters on Friday.

As such, Carnell Tate – who will only run the 40-yard dash on Saturday – will be the last Buckeye to run a 40 at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine when he does so Saturday evening.

Kacmarek Runs 4.74 40

Will Kacmarek ran the 40-yard dash in an official time of 4.74 seconds. His time was the second-slowest among 18 tight ends who ran at this year’s combine.

Kacmarek also posted a 36-inch vertical jump (tied for sixth among 18 tight ends) and a 9-foot-11 broad jump (tied for ninth among 18 tight ends).

Max Klare did not run the 40 or participate in the vertical or broad jump, though he did go through position drills with the tight ends.

NFL Network Interviews Laverna Styles

NFL Network's Stacey Dales sat down with Laverna Styles at Lucas Oil Stadium as Lorenzo Styles Jr. picked up right where Sonny Styles left off at the NFL Scouting Combine. Her husband, former Ohio State linebacker Lorenzo Styles Sr., was also in the stadium but watching Lorenzo Jr.'s performance from the opposite sideline.

Styles Jr. Flies During the 40-Yard Dash

Lorenzo Styles Jr. showed off some serious speed while running an official 4.27-second 40-yard dash.

Downs Skipping Combine Workout

Caleb Downs will not work out at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday afternoon, according to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales.

Igbinosun Runs 4.45

Davison Igbinosun ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash in his NFL Scouting Combine workout – a good time for a 6-foot-2 cornerback – tying for 11th among 20 cornerbacks who ran the 40 on Friday.

He also posted a 10-foot broad jump and 34-inch vertical jump, both of which ranked as the second-lowest marks among cornerbacks who participated in those drills at the combine.

Tate: "No Question" He's Draft's Best Wide Receiver

Carnell Tate

Carnell Tate said there's "no question" he's the best wide receiver in the 2026 NFL draft as he seeks an exceptional end to his climactic college journey.

Tate Will Run 40, Won’t Do Anything Else

Carnell Tate told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday that he will run the 40-yard dash during Saturday’s wide receiver workouts, but won’t participate in any other drills.

Styles, Reese Tie For Combine’s Fastest Linebacker

After both weighed in at over 240 pounds, Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese tied for the fastest 40-yard dash time among all linebackers at the NFL Scouting Combine as both of them ran the drill at an eye-popping speed of 4.46 seconds, solidifying their status as the top two linebackers in the 2026 NFL draft.

Styles Posts a 43.5-Inch Vertical Jump, 11-Foot-2 Broad Jump

Sonny Styles’ NFL Scouting Combine got off to a spectacular start as he posted a 43.5-inch vertical jump, drawing a roar from his fellow linebackers inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

Styles’ 43.5-inch vertical jump was the second-best by a linebacker at the NFL Scouting Combine since 2000 (Cameron Wake, 45.5” in 2005) and the best ever for a player above 240 pounds.

He followed that up with an 11-foot-2 broad jump, tied for the fourth-best ever for a linebacker at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Downs Confident He's the Draft's Best Defender

Caleb Downs

Caleb Downs believes he’s the best defensive prospect in this year's NFL draft, and it's hard to argue given his play and rave reviews from others.

McDonald Does Positional Drills, Skips 40

While Kayden McDonald didn’t participate in the 40-yard dash or any other measurable tests during Thursday’s defensive tackle workout at the NFL Scouting Combine, he went through position drills with the rest of the defensive tackles.

Caden Curry will also be doing only position drills with the defensive ends, Thursday’s second workout group. Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese are expected to both run the 40-yard dash and do position drills with the linebackers on Thurdsay night.

Klare Ready for NFL After Competing at Ohio State

Max Klare

Max Klare, who passed up his final year of eligibility at Ohio State to enter the 2026 NFL draft, is confident he’s ready to play in the league after a year with the Buckeyes.

Matt Patricia

Matt Patricia's coaching and mentorship have meant "everything" to Ohio State's defenders at the NFL Scouting Combine, both in the 2025 season and as they go through their draft processes. And now that he's back with the Buckeyes in 2026, they see national title potential.

Vrabel Says Arthur Smith Will Bring Toughness, Physicality to Ohio State

Arthur Smith was Mike Vrabel’s offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans in 2019 and 2020. Vrabel, who’s now the head coach of the New England Patriots, says Smith, who’s now Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, will bring physicality, toughness and aggression to the Buckeyes’ offense.

McDonald Won't Work Out, Curry to Do Position Drills at Combine

Kayden McDonald told reporters Wednesday that he will not participate in Thursday's defensive line and linebacker workouts at the NFL Combine. The former Ohio State defensive tackle will instead wait to perform at the Buckeyes' March 25 pro day.

Meanwhile, Caden Curry will only do position drills in Indianapolis and wait to complete measurable tests in Columbus.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday that Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese will participate in Thursday's workouts.
