Carnell Tate is a first-round talent on the field and in the classroom.

The recently declared NFL draft prospect and second-team All-American wide receiver was named a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

Tate, a sport industry major, was one of just 25 first-team Academic All-Americans named across the country, with five hailing from the Big Ten. He carries a grade point average of 3.5 this academic year and is the 33rd Buckeye all-time to be named a first-team Academic All-American – an even rarer honor than becoming a consensus first-team All-American on the field, which 97 Ohio State players have done in the school's rich history.

In just 11 games of action in 2025, Tate piled up 51 receptions for 875 yards and nine touchdowns. A starter for Ohio State's 2024 national championship team, he finishes his college career with 121 catches for 1,872 yards and 18 touchdowns. Four major organizations named him a second-team All-American in 2025: The American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News, the Associated Press and On3.

Tate is widely projected as a first-round NFL draft pick in 2026, with many pundits placing him in the top 10. If taken in those first 32 picks, Tate would extend Ohio State's streak of wide receivers selected in the first round to five years.
