Terry McLaurin’s career with the Washington Commanders could be coming to an end.
The former Ohio State wide receiver requested a trade on Thursday, according to multiple reports, amid a contract dispute with the team he’s played his entire NFL career for.

McLaurin has declined to participate in all of the Commanders’ training camp practices so far this preseason as he seeks a new contract from the team. The former Ohio State wide receiver, who will turn 30 in September, is currently in the final year of a contract worth $25.5 million for 2025. McLaurin is reportedly seeking a deal worth more than $30 million per year, which would make him one of the NFL’s 10 highest-paid receivers.
McLaurin has a rightful case to want to be one of the NFL’s highest-paid receivers after a spectacular 2024 season in which he caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, the second-most among all NFL receivers last year. McLaurin earned his second Pro Bowl berth in three years and was named a second-team AP All-Pro for his play in 2024.
With 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels leading the Commanders’ offense, the future appeared bright for McLaurin in Washington. Now that his contract impasse with the team has reached a boiling point, however, McLaurin has his eyes on going elsewhere after six seasons in Washington – though his trade request doesn’t guarantee that the Commanders will move him.
Over the past two years, at least three wide receivers requested trades: Tee Higgins, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. None were traded in the year in which they made the request.

McLaurin is now the latest WR to seek a trade when failing to land the contract he wanted. https://t.co/Nb0exYptZY
