After entertaining college football fans for 38 seasons on fall Saturdays, Lee Corso will make his final headgear pick on Aug. 30.
ESPN announced Thursday that Corso, who turns 90 in August, will retire after almost four decades on College GameDay.

For multiple generations, Coach has been the face of our Saturday mornings and the sport we love.
Our friend, our coach, our heart ... LC, you will forever be a College GameDay legend! pic.twitter.com/AjK8iNw7ye
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said an ESPN press release. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”
Corso added: “ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years. They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement. And lest I forget, the fans … truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”
Corso will make his final headgear pick during Week 1 of the 2025 college football season at a destination ESPN will announce later this spring. It’s possible – if not probable – that the destination will be Columbus, as Ohio State will host Texas in a matchup between two of the nation’s top teams. Corso’s first-ever headgear pick was donning a Brutus Buckeye head on Oct. 5, 1996, after picking the Buckeyes to beat Penn State at the Horseshoe, and it’s now possible Brutus could also be his last headgear pick.

In 38 seasons, Corso has worn the Brutus headgear 45 times. Ohio State is 30-15 all-time in those games.
