Ryan Turner is leaving Ohio State after two seasons with the Buckeyes.

The second-year defensive back announced Sunday that he will enter the transfer portal when it opens Monday.

A four-star recruit in the 2022 class, Turner never earned a consistent role in his two seasons with the Buckeyes. After playing in only four games before redshirting as a true freshman, Turner appeared in just two games this year – back-to-back games against Michigan State and Minnesota in November – as a backup nickelback.

He becomes the second nickelback from Ohio State to announce he will enter the transfer portal as Cameron Martinez announced he would enter the portal on Thursday. Their departures leave Ohio State’s nickel depth for 2024 in question with Jordan Hancock also facing a decision on whether to enter the NFL draft or stay at Ohio State for his senior year.

Turner, a product of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School – the same high school as his recruiting classmate Kenyatta Jackson and 2024 five-star wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith – becomes the fifth Buckeye to announce he will enter the portal since the end of the regular season, joining Martinez, Omari Abor, Victor Cutler Jr. and Evan Pryor.
