Nuge is back in the NFL.

The New England Patriots signed recent Ohio State Hall of Fame inductee Mike Nugent to be their new kicker on Thursday, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo and later confirmed by the team.

Nugent, who had not been on an NFL roster this season after kicking in three games for the Oakland Raiders last season, replaces longtime Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who was placed on injured reserve by the Patriots on Wednesday with a hip injury.

Ohio State's all-time leader in career points (356), career field goals (72) and single-season field goals (28), a two-time consensus All-American and the 2004 Lou Groza Award winner, Nugent was inducted into Ohio State's Athletic Hall of Fame in September.

A second-round pick in the 2005 NFL draft, Nugent has made 253 of 311 field goal attempts (81.4 percent) in his NFL career and is now playing for his eighth NFL team.

With Nugent's return to the league, Ohio State now has at least one NFL player at every position on the field.

Nugent becomes the third former Buckeye on the Patriots' roster, joining John Simon and Nate Ebner.
