Ohio State is back in the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Buckeyes check in at No. 9 in this week's rankings, up four spots from last week.
Ohio State's move up the rankings comes on the heels of the Buckeyes' 48-3 win over Michigan State – which was ranked 12th, one spot ahead of the Buckeyes, in last week's rankings – and a wild weekend in college football in which five of the rankings' top 12 teams lost, also including Georgia, Notre Dame, TCU and Washington. Georgia and Notre Dame remain ahead of Ohio State, at No. 7 and No. 8, but the Buckeyes have moved ahead of USC as well as TCU and Washington.
"(The) selection committee was extremely impressed with the win and the manner of which the win came about against Michigan State last week," College Football Playoff committee chairman Kirby Hocutt said on a teleconference after Tuesday's rankings release. "The win over Michigan State, the win over Penn State are two victories that the Selection Committee continues to be impressed with, but there again, the two losses to Oklahoma and Iowa also weakened the resumé at this particular time."
Alabama takes over the No. 1 spot in this week's rankings after Georgia, previously No. 1, lost to Auburn and fell six spots. Clemson slides into the No. 2 spot, with Miami, Oklahoma and Wisconsin rounding out the top five.
Auburn appears at No. 6 with Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State rounding out the top 10.
