Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye. Across the Shield follows those who once wore Scarlet and Gray on their journeys through the NFL.

Sunday Scuffles

Something about week nine seemed to bring out the chippiness in everyone. There were more than a few scuffles around the league on Sunday afternoon, and two of them involved former Buckeyes.

First, there was Marshon Lattimore vs. Jameis Winston and Mike Evans.

Lattimore and the Saints had been shutting down the Tampa Bay passing attack, allowing just 113 yards through the air. Evans, in particular, was on lockdown, catching just one pass for 13 yards on six targets.

That frustration seemed to boil over, resulting in Winston instigating Lattimore with a strange pointer-finger-to-the-helmet gesture and Evans cheap-shotting Lattimore from behind.

Evans was not ejected, for some reason, but Lattimore was unconcerned. He said he wanted to get even the rest of the game.

And get even, he did.

Lattimore was in coverage for 37 passing plays and allowed just two receptions on seven targets for an opposing quarterback rating of 39.6. Reminder: he's a rookie.

The other former Buckeye involved in some extracurricular activities was Carlos Hyde, who got involved in an altercation after a perceived cheap shot on his quarterback, C.J. Beathard.

Guapo was ejected for his part in the altercation, which is kind of hilarious when you compare his actions to those of Evans in the video just above.

Ted Ginn Jr. House Call

Even at 32 years old, Ted Ginn Jr. is very fast.

The former Buckeye wideout broke loose on Sunday for a 36-yard touchdown catch.

The most entertaining part of the play actually had nothing to do with the play itself, but the celebration afterwards. After scoring, Ginn hopped into the stands, hugged some fans and promptly handed the ball to a baby that was decidedly too young to receive it from him.

Celebration choice aside, Ginn had a stellar outing on Sunday. He caught all four catchable passes thrown in his direction for 59 yards and a touchdown in addition to his 21 yards in kickoff return yardage.

Vonn Bell Does Good Things

It's getting to the point where this piece is just a recap of Saints games, but what are you going to do?

Usually it's Marshon Lattimore impressing the folks over at Pro Football Focus, but this week it was a different former Buckeye defensive back: Vonn Bell

PFF gave Bell the Saints' highest overall grade on Sunday, grading him out at 90.1. Here's what they had to say about his performance:

Making the most of his three pass-rushing snaps, Bell got to the quarterback twice with a sack and a QB hit. The former Ohio State Buckeye was excellent in coverage as he broke up a pass while allowing just two catches on three targets for 15 yards. The second-year player has had an up and down short career but broke through with his best game yet against Tampa Bay.

Bell finished the game with five total tackles, 0.5 sacks, one quarterback hit, one pass breakup and a forced fumble.

Ezekiel Elliott is Still Playing Football

Just when we though Ezekiel Elliott was really, for sure going to suspended, it switched yet again and he was on the field again Sunday, much to the distain of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Elliott didn't have a big, breakaway run on Sunday. Instead, he just methodically pounded away at the Chiefs defense, carrying the ball 27 times for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Will that be the last time Elliott sees the field before serving his suspension? Time will tell, but if history is any indication, it's probably going to go back and forth at least a few more times.

Darron Lee Dances

Darron Lee had himself a day on Thursday night, leading the team with eight total tackles, one sack and two tackles for a loss.

But I'm not here to talk about his stats, I'm here to bring up these incredible dance moves.

Ohio Against The World

This may shock you, but my fantasy team is going to lose again.

Moral is low around the locker room, but I'm hoping inserting Curtis Samuel into the starting lineup with spark something special.
