Ohio State center Billy Price started his 50th consecutive game on Saturday at Iowa, tying Luke Fickell's record for the most consecutive starts in school history.
A fifth-year senior, Price has started every game of his four-year playing career to date. He began his career starting at left guard, playing that position on the 2014 national championship team and again in 2015, before moving to right guard in 2016 and finally, moving to center this season.
Fickell, who went on to become a coach for the Buckeyes and is now the head coach at Cincinnati, previously set the record by starting 50 consecutive games at nose tackle from 1993 to 1996.
Should Price start again next Saturday against Michigan State, the offensive lineman from Austintown, Ohio, will become the first player in Ohio State history to start 51 straight games.
Should Price start every game Ohio State plays for the rest of the season, he could potentially tie or break Pat Elflein's school record – depending on whether Ohio State makes the Big Ten Championship Game and/or the national championship game – for most career games played (55).
