Big Ten Plans to Scale back Friday Night Game

The Big Ten announced plans in November to play games on Friday night, starting in 2017. It wasn't well received outside of conference and television network offices.

Five months later, the Big Ten is having second thoughts. Dan Murphy of ESPN.com reported Monday the Big Ten moved two Northwestern games scheduled for Friday nights this fall to Saturday.

More interesting, however, is this:

A conference official told ESPN on Monday that moving forward, the league is likely to scale back even further to two or three Friday night games after the opening week per year.

Ohio State isn't scheduled to play on a Friday night in 2017, but Gene Smith told The Columbus Dispatch back in November the Horseshoe would host one every three years.

Looks like those plans are no longer set in stone.
