Ohio State redshirt freshman Torrance Gibson is still in Columbus despite being suspended for Autumn Semester, wide receivers coach Zach Smith said Wednesday night after practice.

Smith added he expects the former five-star prospect back at Ohio State in January.

"We just have to stick to the plan and go through the process," Smith said.

The school announced Gibson's suspension for a violation of its student code of conduct on Aug. 29, the Monday before the Buckeyes hosted Bowling Green in their season opener. Urban Meyer told reporters shortly after he did not agree with the University's decision to suspend Gibson.

"It wasn't an athletic or football team (decision)," Meyer said then. "I disagree with it."

Two days later, Ohio State's head coach said he had "zero indication" Gibson planned to leave.

"I believe that is the plan," he said. "This all just kind of happened within the last week so we're still dealing with it."

Smith did not think Gibson's suspension will hurt him in his development as a wide receiver. Gibson played quarterback in high school at American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"I'm not worried about the end result," Smith said.
