You never really know how to feel about opening games. On one hand you're excited, because it represents the beginning of a brand new football season. On the other, you're not quite sure what to make of either the team (which, despite all those preseason magazines you bought you still don't really know too much about), or their opponent, which generally ranges in quality from "scrappy MAC opponent who might put a scare in you" to "scrappy MAC opponent that will absolutely under no circumstances put a scare in you."

That wasn't the case last night. Here we had an established team with well known starters, a marquee road opponent that was definitely capable of pulling the upset, and an electrifying atmosphere that absolutely lived up to the billing.

This is the beginning of the season as it should be. Though teams with a lot to lose are loath to attempt this kind of thing on a regular basis, games like these are infinitely more entertaining than a crubstomping of a lesser opponent from the wilds of northwestern Ohio or some such. Everything about last night was fun as hell, so let's see how the Buckeyes reacted to the festivities.

Sidenote: I went around and looked for as many "hype" tweets from players as I could find, but the team was basically on lockdown before the game. Which in turn got me excited for it even more? Is the lack of hype in fact, hype itself? Anti-hype?

And then it turned out to be Cardale, which basically none of guessed.

It's always nice to see former Buckeyes of all stripes root for the various sports teams, but DAR especially. He was an in and out dude from the moment he stepped on campus, but he enthusiasm for Ohio State is pretty lovable.

Anyway: things happened, VT got rocked. It was cool. This is how the players reacted:

Cardale and Collier had a funny back and forth last night, too. Mostly because Collier fell victim to the spin move:

But here's the thing that sucks about a roadie at night on a Monday; class still goes on the next day. And food allergies never go away. Well, I guess sometimes they do. But they still suck.

Bye, Blacksburg! Hello, Honolulu! Get ready for some fun in the sun, because we're rolling out to Hawai'i and catch- wait. That's a home game?

Does it have to be?
