According to 24/7's Ryan Bartow, 2017's No. 2 cornerback, Shaun Wade — from the same Jacksonville school as former OSU/Auburn and current Stanford commit Ben Edwards —  just became Ohio State's second 2017 commit (behind Massillon's Danny Clark).

Our Director of Recruiting, Jeremy Birmingham, will be through momentarily to hash out the details with everyone.

The Wade File

  • Class 2017
  • Position DB/WR
  • Size 6-2/175
  • School Trinity Christian (Jacksonville, FL)
  • Composite ★★★★
  • Rank 2 (CB)

In the meantime, Shaun Wade's highlight reel is a nice way to kill some time before the big game.

Birm here...

It's not the 2017 commitment the Buckeyes have been expecting, but the commitment of Shaun Wade is definitely one to pay attention to. Wade is a long, fast and impressive cornerback, measuring at 6-foot-2 and 175-pounds already as a sophomore. He's a player that most have discussed as your prototypical "big" corner, the kind that usually end at LSU or Florida State, like his teammate, 2015 five-star Kevin Toliver, did. Wade, like Toliver, has committed nearly two and a half years before he'd be able to sign a letter of intent, so the challenge for the Buckeyes becomes "how do we hold on" at this point.

Interesting note, and perhaps why I'm approaching this commitment with some trepidation: Ohio State confirmed the commitment in the "we'd definitely accept it and love to have him" kind of way, but because of their current indisposed situation in Dallas, he — Wade — hasn't talked to anyone at Ohio State today.

Clearly, he wanted to make a splash hours before the Buckeyes take the field in the 2015 national championship game, but we'll see whether or not this pledge has any legs.

PSA: As blasphemous as it seems: Please leave the celebratory GIFs at the door today.
