Eddie George has added one of his Ohio State teammates to his Bowling Green coaching staff.

Bowling Green announced Tuesday that George hired Lorenzo Styles Sr. as a senior analyst for the defensive line. The Heisman Trophy-winning running back and All-Big Ten linebacker played together for the Buckeyes in the 1990s.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to join such a respected defensive staff," Styles said in a BGSU press release. "Being able to work alongside coaches like Clyde Simmons, Joe Bowden, Richard McNutt and the rest of the Falcons defensive coaches is truly exciting. I approach this role with a lot of humility and appreciation for the game, and I'm looking forward to collaborating, developing young men and helping build a physical, disciplined Falcons defense."

Styles, who led the Buckeyes with 117 tackles in 1993 and 132 in 1994, went on to play six NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (1995-96) and St. Louis Rams (1997-2000). He won a Super Bowl with another Ohio State teammate, Orlando Pace, in 2000 as part of the Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf.”

Styles’ football career didn't end as a player. In 2010, he was the defensive coordinator and coached defensive line for the Continental Indoor Football League’s Marion Mayhem, and in 2011, he was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the league’s Dayton Silverbacks. He also spent both years as a linebackers coach at Ohio Dominican and was the head coach of the United Indoor Football League’s Marion Blue Racers in 2012.

Styles spent the next 10 years as an assistant coach at Pickerington Central High School, where he won two state championships (2017 and 2019) and watched his sons, Lorenzo Jr. and Sonny, become high-level, Division I prospects.

Lorenzo Jr. and Sonny both followed their father’s footsteps by playing at Ohio State, although the former started his career at Notre Dame. Lorenzo stood out on special teams during his tenure and became a starter at nickelback in his final season, while Sonny made an immediate impact on defense and went on to become a Block O recipient, team captain, and All-American linebacker.

Both of the Styles brothers impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. Lorenzo ran the fastest 40 time of any Buckeye in combine history at 4.27 seconds, positioning himself as a potential late-round draft pick. Sonny, who ran a 4.46 40 and recorded a 43.5" vertical jump and 11'2" broad jump, is a projected top-10 pick.
